No FBL heli "Need's" electronic help
2,3,4,5,6 blade heads all fly without the need for the electronics system, "But" will fly a lot smoother with one, the first FBL heli i had was in the early to mid 90's a 5 blade head from Vario, on a gasser, the more blades you have the more stable it is but i flew a two blade fixed head with no problems and later it went into a Airwolf body.

Just make sure you get the phasing right

There was a 3 blade Trex 450 in MHW with no FBL system that flies ok. Nigel who reviewed it who's on here should be able to tell you more.

as said you don't need a fbl electronics system
get the phasing right and reduce the rates and its good to go
if using eccpm don't have the fastest servos on the planet, slower servos will help to get a smooth flight

i wouldnt go flybarless, i flew a trex 600 le fbl 3g at the weekend and broke it due to it having a 'wobbly' on take off. its horrible, that was using the align system

I built a 5 blade 450 and flew it without stablization. Would i recommend it? No. The problems i had were down to tail authority. It would hover ok, but as soon as you increased pitch, the tail would do some pretty strange stuff. Also tried upping and lowering the headspeed, but again it was not stable enough to fly as you would with say a standard FB heli. With the price of FBL electronics dropping in price, i would say get stabilization on any multi blade head. It will make the experience so much better and the heli will fly in a predictable way. Others may disagree, but its the best way from the experience i had.
