Well I am having zero luck with getting a place
at my local heli club so have decided to join my local plane club.
They have also recently lost their site but have already
found an alternative site and have moved in so to speak.
How many of you guys fly in a mainly plank oriented club?
Do you get on ok or is it a bit them & us?

We get on cause they hardly ever turn up!

But even when they do get down there we get on pretty well, there's a couple of exceptions that dont like us very much but I think thats more because of the comeraderie we have rather than the type of models we fly.

On the whole we all get along, cause when you look at it in simple terms whether its fixed wing or rotary wing we're still just a bunch of blokes standing in a field playing with our toys and talking b*ll*cks!

Its ok at our club, but the plank guys dont like heli's being in the air at the same time as planes. It just means that I have the whole airspace to myself when I fly.

Spent years flying Heli's at a fixed wing club, nothing but hassle and the thought of £20 worth of Chinese balsa 'tat' bringing down my heli's never really made it an enjoyable experience.

We even set up a heli only night then the plankers found out and started coming down as well.

Found a heli only club and it's the best move I ever made, no regrets - well there is one and that is I should have done it years ago.

Only just joined a heli club, so been flying with planes for years. Most keep them separate as it's hard to hear the motor on a plank with a heli buzzing around, same with the 3D planks hovering in front of the pits.

Normally a bit of common sense and courtesy and everyone gets on fine.

My first club was ok, but the plane flyers always seemed to think they had priority that use to pee me off and there was some members who didn't like us heli pilots, think most of us left the club an i dn't know if any one else joined

With respect Martin, I think the answer to that questions is squarely in your own hands.

Ours is a long established club and is about 200:15 fixed wing to heli's but there is a good level of respect from both parties and a great deal of banter and helping each other goes on. Heli's have a seperate grassed hover/practice area off the main runway but if anyone wants to fly the bigger nitro heli's or 3D etc they just join in the queue for a take-off slot on the main runway.

We also have some members who can carry out the BMFA A & B tests in both fixed wing and heli's and just for some relaxing fun I recently bought an E Flight Cessna 182, which uses the same Lipo's as my Kings, so was very cost effetive.

Hope you find your club is as accomodating as ours and as helpful.

i fly a a mainly plank club, however we're slowly taking over it does seem very much them and us even though i fly both. a couple of weeks ago one of the plank flyers ran their plane through the pits and into the back of my car which caused an atmosphere not to mention a couple of chunks missing from my rear bumper

My club is very, very quiet so there's usually no problems with fixed vs rotary flying. The biggest snag is when the glider boys turn up and run their winch cable diagonallr across the field - there's no way you can fly helis in that situation because a cable/blade strike will almost certainly cause the loss of the heli.
