  • Taking the MSR on holiday

Im going away soon just for a week in the sun. I was thinking of geting an MSR to take with me so i dont get bord when the mrs is sat by the pool. the thing is can i take the radio gear on the plane with out any issues.

What have you experienced befor ? can you take the radio as hand luggage ?

    thanks Mick

Radio in hand luggage no probs - stick the little lipos in you case. Make some Floats from match sticks and finger balloons then land on the pool - that should kill 1/2 hour, then head for the bar.

Don't tell the Lipo police I occasionally put small lipos in my case. Whoops

I admit I'm pretty geeky and love my tecnology but are you guys for real? Seriously if I go away on holiday the last thing I want to do is take a laptop or any sort of hobby with me. Unless the trip was dedicated to that hobby. I mean if I was taking a trip abroad for my archery or rc models than that is different but if I was sunning it up in the med then I would do just that. I'd get out and learn a bit about the culture or some other leisure activity.

Well you could always try sleeping, drinking and watching a few movies. That has always worked for me on longhauls. The 9hour legs are the easy ones

Anyway if I was on a longhaul I don't think I'd be too impressed with somebody flying an MSR about. I usually like to chill out and try to relax as much as possible and get some kip.

Don't put the Lipos in your case. They must go in your hand luggage.

dont do it. this hobby is a little mental. i wanted to take my blade 400 on holiday to cornwall over easter but really glad i didnt. took the inflatable and outboard instead and cruised the cornish coast for a few days. did something totally different and forgot the helicopter and went back to pre heli normal life for a week. take a double break and enjoy the holiday for what it should be. go an get yourself some fins and a snorkel and get in the sea while the other half stays by the pool. a speargun is another great holiday purchase. catch your tea.

hehe- some of the replies are making heli flying sound like a job and a chore. If you want to take an MSR, take it m8- holidays are about doing what you want without the normal routine to bog you down - there is plenty of time for other activities and culture, even if you do spend half an hour flying. The MSR is just a bit fo fun.

I nearly took my MSR skiing with me, just for the laugh of trying to fly it at 10,000ft, in snow on a sunny mountain.

Well, when I go off to Scotland in May, either the T-Rex 600 or the 500, or perhaps both, are coming with me! Maybe the 250 as well :-)

                          Totally correct.

That said, I have accidentally forgotten to take them out of the box and shipped my MSR in my checked luggage a couple of times without problems so the world will not end if you do forget.

Larger batteries I make a point of packing in a proper lipo bag and carrying in my hand luggage.

I seem to be moving heli equipment and batteries between here and the USA pretty much every month and I've yet to have a problem at security checkpoints.

Unless of course they catch fire, which is the reason they should be in your carry-on luggage. In this case the world will still not end, but it just might for you and your fellow passengers/crew.
