  • Handed flying?

I can fly ok (not great but ok) but i am very very handed in my ways , i do not feel comfortable doing certain things to the left of me, or from right to left, this is a habbit i must get out of, i have a strange feeling a new field to fly on would do me good, my thinking is i am that used to seeing the same view to the left that i associate with my problem erea.... a new view may help me move on Has this worked for anyone else ? Allso my circuits are allways turned away from me, when i do them the opposite way it feels like the sensation of writing with my left hand VERY ODD allthough i dont think i'm alone on that one .

Two words best describe my flying...

    CACK HANDED!

But you're correct. I find right-side on easier than left. When flying planks I always flew in an anti-clockwise circuit.

We are, after all, handed as humans. Some are left handed, some are right. Very few are truly ambidextrous. Nothing we have on our bodies that come in pairs are truly equal in size or shape.

    So don't feel singled out...

With you on that one mate.
I tend to do or attempt most of my stuff ie Normal circuits, Backwards flying, backwards inverted etc in an anti-clockwise direction. I'm not too fussed by it though although I do appreciate I'd do myself favours to practise clockwise stuff.

If I try & write stuff with my left hand I simply end up writing backwards
      Cheers,

I'm also very handed, i tend to do everything anti clockwise. I can do CW aswell & occasionaly go that way just to remind myself (sorry refresh) myself. It's ok but doesn't help if you want to start making nice & flowing transitions into other moves imo. Mattie Lodge said he's very handed too (ccw like me) although it don't matter when you can fly as good as him
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

Practice and take your B test - it will help loads in this area and instills discipline. Make sure you can do all the moves in all directions (unlike me!).

            Couldnt agree more.

"B" Test will sort out your problem..... Because you have to fly both ways to pass.

practice practice practice practice... It will sort you out.

practice just seems like hard work to me now days, i remember starting this hobby and thinking that looks a relaxing fun thing to do, boy was i mistaken . I do think the large wall 20ft to my left has a large part to play in the matter so i may try and fly somewhere different, i allso go down the field ( the wall was a joke by the way ) with all intentions of practicing the simple things to the left and turning in on my self with circuits, but the mind set of i'd rather go down in a blaze of glory trying a new trick sets in as opposed to dumb thumbing it on a bloody circuit lol, i no i need to get back to some basics to move on but i see i'm not alone , shall we forget 3d and start our very own 2d club, all tricks strictly to the right and in no more than 2 dimentions or your out .

Force yourself to be even handed, and also head on. Use the sim to its full potential, then just get it into your head that you can do it, and funnily enough, it turns out to be not as hard as you first thought......

I am having lessons, and we do all maneuvers, in both directions, otherwise I would be stuck going anti clockwise, I find learning to fly these things, the hardest thing I have ever done,

im quite lucky in the fact that i can reverse the control directions without a second thought as i used to race model cars!
But flying is a real challange of hand eye co-ordination and ive lots to learn !!

Funny the things you learn when you are a geek that teaches scuba diving As best I understand it everyone is naturally handed. It's all a part of the reflex mediation system that connects our brains to our muscles. You can re-train (most of) your reflexes after many, many repetitions. An interesting thing is that time and sleep has an effect on the retraining. 10 minutes for 10 days is much more effective than 100 minutes in 1 day.

I just started trying to re-train my clockwise handedness this week using Phoenix. One of the exercises I am doing is to spend a 15 minute session only turning left and not breaking the flight line. Then I switch off and go do something else for an hour. Seems to be doing the trick and I have made a marked improvement since Sunday.

Just wish it was that easy in real life. I am about 5 degrees off completing a 180 spot turn at the ends of my narrow garden but keep bottling it.

I managed to complete lazy 8's with relative confidence with my trusty shuttle (In my opinion a great trainer) but I allways found the left turn an issue to the point where I sometimes bottled it and caused my own issues accordingly, It seemed more a case of mind over matter.
I have since put the shuttle to bed and progressed onto my Raptor 30 to start doing loops, rolls and stall turns etc, Once more I was in that same place !! Do I attempt a loop to the left, no I will give it a go to the right, hang on I'm not sure....mind over matter takes hold again,
I then get my 3D Storm up ( nice and twitchy compared to the Raptor ) I loop to the left then I loop to the right I roll to the left then i roll to the right Then I went and decked it, but hey I was happy at what i had achieved with minimal cost comparatively ( maybe thats the issue ? ).
Bring on the Raptor again, same level of confidence......Hell No !! Bloody Mind over Matter again, Phoenix absolutely no problem, reality a completely different story, but isnt that what makes it the hobby it is
