  • 1s charging

ok i'v been looking at the pnp msr's and iv been thinking at £59 its a bargin. the only thing missing is the charger. Now my charger sez it will charge from 1s-6s lipo's. i also have a plug in the wall typ charger that i got with a coax helicopter with 1s lipo's that looks like it has the same end . this is my charger
IMAX B6 2S-6S AC/DC Charger with Leads & LiPo Balancer on eBay (end time 04-May-10 11:35:49 BST)

do you think i could get away with using these and some kind of charging harnnes to charge the 1s up or will i need to get a new charger. ( would have to get the bnf if so )

2 of my mSR batteries died on me and refused to accept charge from the supplied charger, so i made a little charging harness (2S) to go into my Cellpro and it started charging them with no problem, so i think it can be done..

I think you'll be safer charging them on the IMAX rather than the wall charger and you might as well make a suitable harness to charge all of them at the same time..

Hopefully someone with the same charger as yours might be able to comment on the suitability if they have done it..

Interesting i really think that if some way of charging the 1s from the existing chargers we all have, at £59 the msr is very tempting. im sure iv seen some where on eday a harness that charges 6 1s at once

I have been charging the 1S lipo through the balance board on my charger.. So you'll need the following:

HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : Mini Plug Extention for Micro Battery 10cm (5pcs/bag) $1.99

and a suitable plug to go into your balance board..

Don't know if you can use it without the balance board (as my charger only has a balance board as an output).. But i've seen this also HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : 2 Pin JST plug with 6 x Pico plug charging harness $1.59 and maybe someone will comment on the suitability of this type of leads to charging the lipos..

No problems Just make sure your charger can handle charging lipos from that type of plug (i think its called a JST, but may be i'm wrong)..

              Good luck

When you make a hearness to charge multiple 1S packs by connecting them to the charger as a 2S or a 3S bear in mind that most chargers are limited in the difference in current that can be supplied to each cell.
Yuo will be OK if you make sure that the charging rate for the pack is less than the "shunt current" or "Bypass" current that the charger uses for balancing. This can be only 100mA for a budget charger like the imaxB5 or B6. So if it sees a lot less than 8.4v across two cells, it will put the charge rate you have set into the packs and bleed 100mA out of the one thats full. But if the othercell is really low it will still be putting more than 100mA through the pair and so some current still goes into the full one which can be overcharged and damaged.

You will be OK if you make sure the packs are discharged about the same ammount but that will be difficult..

The cellpro chargers have a more intelligent balancing method and will be OK no matter how out of balance the cells are - but they will take ages to charge an empty pack if you connect a full one too! There may be other chargers with similar technology as well.

am i rite in saying i would need to say charge 6 1s packs of 130mah as 1s off 780mah so my seting on my charger would be 1s . 0.4amp. 780mah ?

Yeh you can parallel charge as many as you like, add the mah of each cell together and charge at that total amount. I parallel balance charge upto 5 3s lipo's for my Trex250 - each battery for me is 850mah so for example if i wanted to charge 3 of them thats 3 x 850 equals 2550 so i charge them at 2.5amps as a single 3s battery. Thats just under 1C charge, 3 charged in the time it takes to charge 1.
