  • Receiver and Battery help!! PLEASE :)

What spektrum receiver to you spektrum people use for your helis?

Here is the problem i have.

After the raptor went in for the 2nd time i have 99% traced the fault back to the switch, now i do not want to have a switch in the equation anymore.

The problem i am having is hw to connect the batery to the receiver, the battery now has an EC3 connector on it and i have made a receiver plug to ec3 lead, BUT,, the wires are obviously very thin receiver end and i am worried they wont take the weight of the connector the other end for long.

I have seen this receiver on FL Fast Lad Performance but was wondering if anyone used them or had a better idea on how to connect the battery to the receiver without the use of a switch???

    Cheers

i think most of us use the ar7000 rx or the ar6200 if your not planning to use a governer. what battery are you using on your heli? if it is a 4.8v nimh you could just get a servo extension and plug the battery onto that although it is much easier to just use a swtich i know you've had a faulty one but they are pretty reliable and i'd guess just as reliable as any other way of connecting the battery to the rx that you might be considering

looking at the rx you linked to will do what you want too

Did you know you can get heavy duty switches ?

Also I've seen "failsafe" switches, I believe that RealRaptors sold them, but that's not much help as they no longer exist, but maybe Fastlads have them ?

Switches can be a weak point, but in my years of flying RC models, I've only ever seen 2 fail in flight

For my flybarred helis I use a regulator that has a standard sized deans on it connectoed to a 2 cell lipo Rx pack. then into the receiver the reg has normal receiver plugs.
On my V-bar helis I run an rx lipo with two standard receiver plugs on it direct into the receiver and then regulate the voltages after it comes out the V-bar

JR heavy duty switch harnesses are the ones to use.....

(Search Midlands for JR498 - note: NOT the "D" version!)

One thought I had a while back was to make up some Y harnesses with one Deans jack and two JR (or whatever you call them) jacks that go into the rx.

You can connect power to more than one place on the rx, I think the negative inputs are all tied together anyway (correct me if I'm wrong on this).

The purpose of connecting more than one jack to the rx would be to hopefully avoid a failure due to a solder joint or something.

Then you secure the harness somewhere and the points going into the rx never get moved, tugged etc. only the deans gets connected and disconnected and deans are pretty solid.

For a while I was using a Duralite regulator on my raptor 30 and it has it's own switch rather than the switch being inline before the rx.

I have a Fromeco Arizona reg that I'll use on something soon and it has a failsafe switch on it. Of course the regulators can potentially fail but short of running dual everything it's pretty hard to be 100% bulletproof.

Why not try the align regulator, Fast Lad Performance it has a switch and glow all in one, for a little bit more money the same kit comes with lipo.

Yes all negatives on an rx are connected to a single bus. The positive connections are connected to a single bus also

Thanks for all your suggestions, in the end i decided to go with what i will feel most comfortable with, i.e some thing that i feel is as safe as possible.

That being the AR7100. Battery plugs straight into the receiver, so only the one connection.

                  Cheers

I might be missing something here but the picture shows a switch, is the switch not used?

I once saw an Xcel heli with two switches in parallel. The chap turned them both on for flying, and if one of them failed, the 2nd one was (hopefully) ok to carry on.

A bit over the top in my opinion.

I go for the JR heavy duty ones as Pete suggests.

It is a soft switch, which fails on.
