  • Velocity did a chicken dance

Today my velocity self selfdestruct on the ground. It did a chicken dance of death after the battery disconnected and I lost all control of the heli. This happen after I did a really nice auto. I decided to takeoff again. As it gone into a hover I lost control of heli, the head tilted and the blades dug into the ground. We stood by as the heli just spun around and around, chopping the blade shorter and shorter. Eventually a other flyer had the courage to step on the head and kill the throttle.

Damage seems to be limited to the whole head, stripped TT gears, clutchliner, boom, canopy and blades

Is there someone out there with a complete outrage Velocity head that they want to sell? Someone that maybe has gone flybarless. So the moral of the story is. Check your battery connection an make sure it is tight. I'm using micro Deans. I'll replace then with normal Deans for sure.

    Cheers Jaco

    Blimey Jaco, not good

Get it all repaired and forget about it

There is an Outrage 50 flybarless head on the BMFA, then stick a Beastx FBL system on there

thats sickening to hear mate, hope you dont lose confidence in it. Wish there was a failsafe on the market that would at least kill the throttle on power loss

The head came of worst. Other than that, I need a new boom, blades and a canopy

It was bizzare. What he negleted to mention was that this heli was on the floor doing the chicken for about 2 full minutes! It started off with the blades pretty much in tact but as it wound round and round little bits kept shattering off till it only had the roots left, parts of the blades were found 20m away.

We now have a crop circle in our field.

But seriously crash-alot needs a cheap head so ask around guys if anyones converted to FBL and has one kicking about I know he could really do with getting this back in the air quickly.

2 minute chicken dance and, apart from the head, the rest of the heli looks in good shape.
Still never a nice thing to watch. Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Yea it didnt look terrible, the boom's pretty banged up, the tail gears are stripped, the canopy would probably have been ok if it hadnt been stamped on, but on the whole its probably not as bad as it could have been!

Honestly, it felt like an eternity! Yeah def 2min plus. Tail TT gears strip. CY tail blades spotless, boom still flyable but looks scruffy. One boom support rods broken. Im surprised that my landing gear, exhaust and tail was unscathed. The canopy is lightly scratched and two small holes in it. Flyable but will make this awesome heli look tatty.

The worst thing about the crash is that the heli is covered in dust. Big stripdown to get it tip top again.

Unfortunately she will be grounded for a while. Damage total Approx £200 including blades and canopy.

Sad to read this Jaco, I hope you get the bits you need qickly and have it back in the air soon. I did chuckle at the 'chicken dance' phrase though.

And it could be worse, it could have happened while it was climbing out and ended up God knows where, never to be seen again.

I read somewhere that csm do a product that in the event of a power problem will close your throttle using a small rechargable battery.

Found it!! It's called throttle safe and it's in the latest heli mag
