  • Align 3G for 450 Sport, take 2.

Rebuilt the Sport and put the sensor this time on the bottom plate. Seems to have a bit more room there perhaps preventing vibration. Garden hover felt night and day to how it did first time around and it actually flew as well in teh garden as the flybar one did but was more stable in the hover. Will field test it first thing tomorrow morning so will have an update then.

    Some pics and a video....

Righto, 3 flights this morning and for the most part, the big issues have gone. This was due to bad placement of the sensor on my part in the first flight. Fast forward flights is pretty good, less inputs required than with a flybar and it is nice and smooth. Still had the tail blowouts issue so I have had to reduce the pitch to 9 degrees both ways to cure it. Very odd, the flybarless head seems way more sensitive to bogging than with a flybar. That said with 9 degrees it still handles as if it had 11 or 12 just without the bogging. The tail is still an issue, I now get a bit of wag and it creeps round a bit during tick tocks. Also I have my aileron gain at 11 o'clock but I cannot cure a drift to the left during hovers. Odd. So far I still prefer the flybarred heli as it seems to have more of a 'snap' feel to it. To get the flybarless to fly well I have had to reduce my swash mix a fair bit so it all seems a bit slower. The plus side is that it feels a lot easier to actually fly. Doing inverted circuits was so easy as was inverted hovering which is tricky on the flybarred heli. Also did some half piro's and they were much easier than with the flybar, so smooth. I will get there but it's going to take a bit more tweaking until I have the repsonsiveness back that I like but still keeping the locked in feeling.

The 3G system was £245 from fast lads.

Got it all working pretty well now.

I'm still not blown away by it, things like inverted hovering are now stupidly easy as you barely have to correct the heli at all and there is no drift at all but it just seems to bog down far too easily for my liking. You have to have really precise collective management to get the most out of it which is something I am struggling with. I've had fun but 3G is not for me so will be putting it back up for sale. It's been 'interesting!'

For some reason, even running 10 degrees pitch is too much and it was bogging all over the place which also caused tail blowouts. I have further reduced my pitch to 8 degrees which now seems fine. I am a bit puzzled though as it feels like it has way more than 8 degrees in flight. I set all my pitch up in DIR mode which is right I think. I also moved my tail servo ball out further by one hole which has helped cure that awful kickout. It all just fell into place and is now an absolute joy to fly. It's taken me ages and about £100 to get to this point though (many crashes).

Thanks Andy. Yeah it just smooths it all out and it feels just like the sim now it's setup nicely. I still like my flybar heli but it's damn twitchy in comparison now.
