  • Q on thr linkage+curves

I set my thr linkages like this,,,

At zero throttle in the thr settings and stick at bottom the engine is at idle
and ticking over because I've raised the thr trim to obtain tick over,
    So
In theory the engine is not at zero in the thr settings its above
therefore when you set 50% thr in a curve its actually above 50%

    Is this wrong

The only way I can see around this is to set everything according to carb guide marks ie mid stick= mid carb open marks (on an OS engine) and
raise the thr curve from 0 to what ever,,, 5?? to give engine tickover
or idle, with the trim at centre
What rpm does an OS 55 idle at??

    Replies please

I think that would entirely depend on the exact type of radio you have.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

      Sorry

      Futaba T10cp 2.4
trim shows 32 points above 0 mid trim,, gives engine idle

my 55 is just set up so that it idles, but not fast enough to engage the clutch and not slow enough to stall it ....the way i do mine is 50 on throttle on tx menu and trim at centre and throttle arm at 90degrees so that the crab arm is at mid stick in the middle of the settings then i lower the throttle and adjust using the endpoints to give the desired opening and the same at top stick ... it should roughly be somewhere in the region of 90-110% either way , any lower or higher then move the ball link either in or out ... then i set the throttle cut to work and then start .. you then just adjust the trim to get the idle the way you want it .. hope this helps

tbh it dont matter much if its out as when your setting the head speed it wont be at 50 as theres alot more to take into account like servo, servo arm length , throttle geometery << cant spell lol.. .so i tend not to worry too much about 50 as being gospel and only use it to do the first setup of the throttle and then just fly and adjust till i got the headspeed i want

Personally I have 0% being fully closed, 100% fully open. Idle is normally between 9-11%. Idon't suppose it matter particularly though, the numbers are laregely irrelelvant!

            Thanks Mike W

Its just that I like things to show (as near as pos) what it represents ie thr 5-10%= idle rpm and 50% is close to 50% engine rpm

I guess the reason for this is because having worked with engines alot in the past you get to know by the sound when its running at max, above mid, under load rich/lean etc
its a pet hate of mine to have the stick at mid showing 50% thr and know by the sound its above mid

so I think I'll try Jamiem's setup and see how I get on

Set the throttle at zero on the engine, with the stick at zero and TX main trim at zero. Open the throttle with the main TX trim until you get a steady idle and stationary blades.

Most transmitters (i.e. the ones I've looked at) only apply the throttle trim to a fraction of their range for precisely this reason. Typically, throttle trim only applies to the lower 25% of the throttle curve.

I decided to set 0% throttle to be the idle point. I chose this because otherwise you need to set a trim value to get the engine to run, and you need to set a value for throttle hold to keep the engine running. With idle at 0%, the default values are fine.
