  • How high does it go mister ?? Answer: 865ft

A friend had bought the eagletree altitude and speed loggers, which work standalone or with the main eagletree unit.

Yesterday we taped the alt sensor to skids of my Trex 500 to see how high it goes - I flew it as high as I could see (literally) and it came back with 865ft !!

I also stuck it on a funjet plane, and again flying as far (or a bit higher) than I could see it came back with 1846ft - this was beaten by someone with a powered glider (big wings) who managed 2120ft !!

Anyway, next time someone asks how high does it fly, I'd reckon a 500 is 900ft max, probably a bit less for something smaller, but I can't see anyone enjoying flying anywhere near this height !

The speed sensor we only put on another funjet (you have to mount a brass pitot tube out in front of the nose so its awkward to fit on a heli) - the funjet did 84mph which was better than we thought (300w motor, 3S lipo) !

We've done speed runs with video camera and doppler software before but only on planes, I'd say my heli's (450pro/500 both 3G) don't go more than 50-60mph - they look faster than that though - honest ;-)

I saw a video of Curtis Youngblood flying his 90 electric at 129mph and it looked crazy fast !!

I've had 74mph out of my 6S Trex600 in the past, measured by my EagleTree GPS logger, I've yet to measure it with 12S and flybarless though!

        knock knock...

Blimey - I know how fast that is - think I'd be needing fresh underwear after that ;-(

I went to a club site one day and one of the guys had a form of altitude logger on the plane, not a massive sized plane, but he obviously has good eyesight and is by the way a very good flyer, when he landed it 638mtrs which is over 2000 feet, I have to say it was a fantastic day and easy to see models (except me of course )

Speaking to a good friend recently, he has had a 90size up to over 1200 feet (data logged)
