  • Align 3G system...my short experience.

Maybe I am being a bit harsh here but based on my one and only experience it's fair.

    Plug and play my arse.

    So what happened?

Wired everything up as per the manual. I studied this several times, checked, checked again then re-checked and all is as per the manual.

Fire it up and my servo's go a little mad, jittering all the time then I smell burning. Quickly unplug things and check, 2 of my servo's are literally roasting as is the ESC (motor is unplugged at this stage as per the manual). I was holding the set button as I was powering on as per the manual.

Try again and nothing. Only 1 servo responding to commands.

Strip it all again and take out the 3G.

It's only fried 2 perfectly working HS65MG's and my Align 35A ESC.

    Not all that impressed.

Tried with a new ESC and servo's and still doesn't work. Servo's buzz like mad when you go into setup mode and ESC gets so hot it literally burns your skin. Something is clearly wrong with it. Back to Fastlads it goes. Real annoyed that it's cost me 2 servo's and an ESC.

They should call it 3 Shite.

        Nope...........my mistake.

I assumed the HS65's were digital and they are not. My mistake people. The 410's seem to work but now need to rip the HS65's out. Doh.

        Will report back soon.

Right well, got her flying after some successful garden hovers so took it down to the field. Had the gain about 9 oclock which saw the heli pitch up and down like a nodding donkey. Lowered to its lowest setting it still oscilated like mad. Increased which made the oscillation faster but not so severe. Did a few tick tocks and now the tail won't hold. I am not surprised as the 780 never held on my 450 either. Did some hurricanes eventually which seemed really locked in then went for some tick tocks. Again, tail blowouts made them nigh on impossible. Then I had a new problem, engine would cut out for a second before firing up again. Landed it and checked and all seemed ok. Got a new battery out and was doing some nice smooth circuits when the nose pitched up without any input from me, then it pitched down hard and she hit the dirt.

Screwed all my servo gears, broke my belt, a main blade and bent shafts.

This crash would not have happened with the flybarred model.

The brief moments it worked it felt amazing but it was brief. In my opinion this thing is nowhere near as easy as Align will have you believe and I am not willing to waste more of my limited funds on it. It's going on ebay asap.

My opinion is flybar is much, much better. More preditcable and controllable.

This is far too random for my liking. Thank feck I didn't have this on a 600 or something.

The warm sunny morning has made me give this another go, once I fix up the 450 of course.

There must be something I am missing in the setup or the unit is not right.

Will await parts and then have another crack. Oh the drama!

Here was my first hover before the crash. The gain was at about 12 o'clock at this point but to be honest it didn't change much even after lowering them as low as they could go. Hmm.
