  • DS650 - Spartan Quark - No Tail Wag

    Hi,

Im using a Align DS650 and Spartan quark however the gyro gain is at 0% in rate mode which is 100% gain and i get 0 tail wag and i cant undersdtand it i have the ball link on the 2nd to last hole on the align servo arm.

Also the piro rate/rudder movement is extremely extremely slow

Do i need to move ball to furthest hole out to have more mechanical gain or could it be something else.

    The tx is JR 9xv2

Travel adj is set to 100% and dual rate are 100%

Have you got the gain channel for the gyro plugged into channel 5 or channel 7 on the receiver?

If you've got the 'gyro sens' function active in your Tx then you must plug the gain lead into channel 7 (Aux 2).

If you haven't got the 'gyro sens' function active then you need to plug it into channel 5 and use the end points for this channel to set your 'normal' and 'heading hold' settings.

Sounds to me (because I did it once myself with the same radio years ago) that you've got your wires crossed - i.e. got the gyro gain lead plugged into channel 5 (old fashioned 'normal' way of doing it) and are then trying to adjust the gain using the 'gyro sens' function. What you're actually doing is sending your gain value to channel 7 (Aux 2) which is an unused channel, so it's having no affect, and the default values on your channel 5 (gear channel) are by luck just about ok to keep it working, but not quite right.

          Been there, done that.

If you need any more detailed help, PM me a phone number and I'll call you. I use this radio, well almost, it's a DSX9 = same thing, just giggly hurts.

                Take a peek here:

I've not looked at the vids myself yet, but they may help.

The gyro gain is def on right channel.

Now what i did do was set teh end points on gyro and basically when moving rudder stick the slider stopped before getting to full range on rudder stick so i reduced travel adjust by quite alot until i got full movement on rudder stick that corresponded with tail slider. Is this wrong?? and could this be why its slow.

Also on my box on travel adjust i can go upto 150% and factor default is 100% when setting up gyro endpoints should the tx be set to max endpoints.

                  Thanks

Re: DS650 - Spartan Quark - No Tail Wag

Your travel adjust will slow the tail down.

Try it on the ground, adjust the travel adjust right up to 150 and wiggle te rudder stick them do the same with a really low value.

                    You will see a difference.

Set it up mechanically correct then start again.

So you have the 'gyro sens' function active on your Tx and your gain lead from the gyro is plugged into channel 7 (Aux 2).

                        Ok

So your gain values on the Tx in the gyro sens screen range from zero to 100%. On this range, 50% is zero gain, with everything below 50 being 'normal' gyro mode and everything above 50 being 'heading hold' gyro mode.

All of my 760s run at about 70% in heading hold mode and 35% in normal mode. Have you set the bit down the right hand side of the screen that assigns a value to each flight mode?

Have a look at my attached picture - I've got the extra flight modes active on my Tx, you might not have, but don't worry about that.

Plug a servo to the receiver on the same channel you had the gyro gain. Adjust the gain on the radio screen and confirm that the servo moves. On many occasions people had set the radio to control a different channel and thus the gyro would not see any change at all.
