  • Night Flying at the BMFA Nationals

    Hi Chaps,
let me introduce myself... I'm Neil Cooper (Coops) one of the Safety Team at the BMFA Nats.
I am hoping this year to have a Helicopter Night Flying Exhibition slot on the Saturday night. The BMFA has given me permission and encouraged me to organise this and as with all events but especially the BMFA Nats, there will be some “must haves” in place, due to restrictions of RAF Barkston Heath.
All pilots flying must be pre registered and have proof of BMFA insurance and hold a “B” certificate,
Any heli’s flying at night must be electric and on 2.4 GHz
Please contact me to register your interest and for further details.
I can be contacted by email on mim82@btinternet.com or by mobile on 07503531473

Why the restriction to electric? some sort of "safety" issue? or noise?

In case you hadn't noticed there is almost no difference in noise between a .50 size or larger electric and nitro!

Is this exhibition flying in addition to last years casual night flying that was taking place on the runway next to the campsite (near to the pylon racing area)?
The evening flying last year was very relaxed and really enjoyable - I hope this proposal doesn't replace what was happening last year...

I think this sounds like a job for the A team Smith Brother's.
Best synchronised flying and at Night.
Might have to find them some large electric models
            Cheers Paul

As far as I am aware, there was no nitro flying going on last year, if it was it certainly wasn't authorised and if it was known about, it would have been stopped.
The reason for electric only is because of noise as per the 2.4 ghz line that is run in the early evening and before dark.

Last years night flying was organised by me, with the BMFA's permission, it came about at as an enquiry by a few friends and as "xpower180" says it was relaxed and enjoyable.
I want to expand on this for this year, run the same way ie relaxed and entertaining but as with all BMFA events and especially the BMFA's premiere event, safety issues are all important with the added aspect of darkness.

I hope that some of you want to participate. lets show helis off at a predominantly plane event !!

I'll night fly, I'm there anyway helping run the F3N so might as well fly a demo or two. Pretty sure Rob will have a go as well.
