  • First flight First auto

Took my Trex 600nsp out this morning, it was windy with strong gusts, Im dont mind a bit of wind but the gusts still catch me, but after waiting a week to maiden I decided to risk it.

Engine started on first turn, because I am having ongoing problems with my switchglo, I removed the glowstick and mounted the canopy. Placed the heli ready for lift off, increased the throttle, splutter and the engine dies. Re did all of the above Need to sort out the idle, very sloppy on engine pick up.

Got airborne, fighting the gusts, Its a new model , so was running at 30% expo and controls where to dull, so landed turned expo down to 20%, more responsive but next flight I will try 15%. Did a couple more tanks, wind increasing, but loving the feel, I was determined to do one more tank. Doing some nice side on hovering, about 20 foot high alternating between left and right, thinking about a piro, when the engine just died. I suprised myself, I DIDNT PANIC, autoed to a perfect landing. I was amazed how well it kept head speed.

Post flight checks revealed the culprit, the screw had come out of the throttle servo arm, my fault totaly I had either forgot to put a nut on it or forgot to threadlock it. THe heli came home in one piece so its a victory for me.

    THINGS TO DO

    1: Recheck all fixings
    2: Sort out idle
    3: Fix revlock
4: Get this f$$$^&%g switchglo working
    5: Learn to fly

Anyway time for a fry up before I go on easter egg hunt

I got a little tip from a guy in the club, put a dot of tipex on your servo horn screws and others that could come adrift, not frame screws, but ones that are normally hidden by the canopy and you only check when you arrive at the field. I wish he'd given me the tip before it folded into a snotty heap inverted, aileron servo horn came off.
