  • This weekend I have been mostly..

Chilling at a Very good mates who also happens to be a member of this forum, Chockymonster.

Along with a night of general drinking and tomfoolery we managed to get a few hours in on Phoenix while our better halves watched 'Most Haunted' I am banned from the same room as the telly while this is on as apparently my sniggering put them off Fortunately we used the time wisely and Chocky can now do a very good Stall Turn and his circuits have improved massively. (why can I show him this on Phoenix but I am still at the tail in hover stage for real?)

The weather looked like it was going to stay claggy all day, fortunately a clear spell popped along which coincided with the better halves wanting to go on a shopping trip. I found I had miraculously accidentally put my Helis and Tx in the car So off we went to the flying field very close to him.

I wanted to try for 2 firsts, 1, fly the 450 without Training gear for the first time and 2, fly my gorgeous 500 I collected from Bruinbear, also for the first time.

    I managed both

Paul being a photo nut also recorded the event for posterity.

Me flying the 450 sans TG.

Following this I screwed up some courage and went for it with the 500!

That look on my face is concentration, not fear! Honest

Thanks very much to Paul for a top 2 days, and for the photos

The pictures seem to have disappeared? Unless it is just me?

Yep - landings are a vital part of this hobby!

Right, my car's packed and I'm off to the field.

                Catchya later...

Glad to see you flying the 500 Lee. It's so weird seeing someone else flying it, but you look like you're really enjoying it and I'm pleased that you're happy with it.

Cheers Mike, very nervous first time I lifted it, It is absolutely spanking and what I did not want to do is break or bend anything, and the wind was quite gusty at times.

Talking of which, the gusty wind was Paul's problem I think, just as he lifted a big gust got under the disc and lofted it a fair old way up as well as shoving it off sideways, he corrected but maybe a combination of dropping the collective *just* that tiny bit too much, along with the beginner link settings on his Dragonus not giving him the control he was expecting from practising on Phoenix meant he went it a little hard and a little off level.

The damage was not too bad for all that, he actually got throttle hold on before it made contact and that restricted damage to the blades and feathering and main shafts. I am sure following the rebuild and moving the links over to intermediate he will be fine next time

That almost makes it sound like I knew what I was doing!
Add the flybar and anti-rotation bracket and a couple of canopy support posts to that list and that's the lot.

Typically the only spare part I don't have is the feathering shaft but replacements are on the way.
