  • Dispute resolution

Following on from the very unfortunate dispute between two forum members yesterday, I have a suggestion in order to hopefully prevent a repeat of this sad affair.

Another forum I used to belong to has a separate 'Dispute resolution' sub-forum in the members only section. Any situation similar to yesterdays can be raised here, and mediated by a moderator. By having it in a members only section prevents dirty washing being aired in front of the whole world, and bringing down the public view of the forum. RC HeliAddicts is a great community, and I for one hate to see members falling out in front of all.

I think you'll find that this is already an option should a mod decide it. Have a look at Stuarts last post on the aforementioned thread before he shut it.

Sounds like a good idea, though not sure how the moderators would feel about taking the role of mediator.

Does nbot have to be a mod, any model forum member could be given the task really.

I totally agree, I think that there are a LOT of very respected members on the forum (witness some of the responses to THE thread) who are very level headed and fair.

How about either the members that need some mediation choose someone mutually acceptable, if the nominated member is happy to be a mediator.

Alternative idea is to have a list of well respected and currently active members that are willing to be mediators?

I personally like the idea but believe it should be done via PM and telephone/email etc. and kept away from the public gaze.

However, in the event of a real charlatan being unearthed, then some method needs to be in place to warn other potential victims.

I too beleive it should be done in private as genuiene people do mess up and make mistakes, or miss something small etc but then if it cant then what.

It will come out in the open like this, then when it does straight away it damages the seller, the second that thread is read bam, damage like that hurts for ages unfortunatly and it just proves this by the amount of views that particular thread rcd.

Members only section is a good idea but then why should/does the forum's name get brought down.

Good idea, that it is on a 'private' part of the Forum helps the Forum reputation perception to non members, and better it is set-up and no or little used, than a fully public debacle ensue.

Posted by Stuart last night, we are discussing the same thing and it is already in place guys, should a mod or one of the involved partied request it.

There is little chance of controlling "fighting" people, with strong and fixed opinions on any subject, until one backs down, they agree to differ, the moderators step in, or they suddenly start behaving like adults....... setting forums rules for specific cases will NOT work.

I'm sure that the two involved are feeling pretty sheepish now, unfortunately the innocent one (if there is one ?) could also be feeling pretty hard done by as well.

On another forum I use.. there is a 'Fights & Flames' section where ppl can vent their anger out at each other without being moderated. Maybe we could have one of these

I meant the resolution process not the dispute.
