ok well I...have decided to give up flying!!
I really just cant justify the cost of the hobby. With a wife and 2 young children I feel the money could be better spent. for me I feel it is a bit selfish to spend the amount on a hobby.

Also I myself was getting ****ed off spending £30-£40 on repairs for the Blade 400 each time I crashed. It would only get more expensive if I had gone on to get the TRex 500...and crashing is always going to happen as the better you get the more you push.

I shall keep my MCX and mSR but that will be it for me
I have enjoyed my time on this forum and I wish everyone on here many happy years flying ahead of them

    Regards

I can understand your sittuation. It aint cheap when you have other priorities.

Still you are keeping the MSR which as far as I am concerned means you are still flying.

Cheers and hope you find another hobby not so financially demanding.

Sorry you have reached the decision that you have. However I feel that you have made the right decision based on your personal circumstances.

Perhaps, when funds to finance this hobby are more readily available, you will return. In the meantime I wish you and your family well.

when i first started looking at the hobby i was warned by quite a few people about the finincial side of it, and they haven't been wrong so far, when i was in your circumstances with young children i couldn't afford to wipe my but now my kids are grown up i can, i know how you feel but you are making a sensible decision and putting your family first, you will have your time when they are older, best of luck for the future mate

Same here love the hobby, but family commitments come first, and financially kids are a money pit Still fly but not as much as I would like, would hate to crash any of my heli's and havn't for a while, im thinking the next £40-50 crash on a heli as small as a 450, is just not worth it.
Shame you are in this situation, hope you come back to it soon.

Sorry to hear your going, but you have obviously thought about it and are being responsible about it too. At the end of the day, family has to come first. Stick around the forum and day Hi every now and then though and just keep flying the msr and mcx so when circumstances change you will be able to pick up a bigger bird easier

Good luck to you with your decision, after all it is just a hobby.

I look at it a different way though. I gave up going out, I don't smoke and I don't drink an awful lot and I gave up golf. I commit to £40 a month for spares or heli related bits. I fly only 1 helicopter the choice being such that spares are abundant and relatively cheap. I use the cheapest fuel I can find, currently Rapicon. I fly only on a Saturday morning/afternoon as long as there are no family commitments pressing and make sure a Sunday I spend with Louise and the boys.

I think you can balance family things with your hobby, just don't expect to become the next Stu Smith. Enjoy it and remember 'all work and no heli play makes Dave a sad boy'. I also look for bargain blades (the biggest cost) on ebay, £20 for a pair of Align 600 d's.

This is a great pity, but yes R/C helicopters are very expensive.....

However perhaps you could keep your eye in with a fixed wing R/C model.... They last pretty much forever unless you are very unlucky?

Selfless decision making, and I wish you all the very best.

                              Hi Adam,

I left the hobby many years ago for a number of reasons including like yourself having a young family and not being able to justify the expense ... family always must come first.

13+ years on, and I am now looking to restarting this brilliant hobby.

I truly hope that you can return to this hobby sooner than I.

                              Best wishes, Deano
