OK so I admit I'm slow to learn these piloting skills.. usually at the cost of several crashes..
I've been able to hover nose in inverted since the autumn.. although that skill did cost all 4 frames on a 450 as well as a bent headblock and several servo gear sets...plus the usual other bits..
But for some reason my brain couldn't grasp the concept of tail-in inverted. Yeah, I could do it on the sim until the proverbial cows came along.. I could do it on phoenix in the gymn, with a 450 in gusts so strong you had to get lucky to take-off before the model flew away (anyone know a gymn lke that?).. but actually on a real heli..adrenaline, stained trousers and dementia togather .. you get the picture.
I even managed to stack three helis in 3 days running last month working at it..but it came together this week. Yesterday I was happily hovering my 500 inverted wondering what the fuss had been about.. and today it's gusting well into the 20mph's on 'The Hill' and i was almost happy while hovering inverted for several minutes at a time - tail-in..
<this usually means I'm gonna get cocky and put another in the dirt tomorrow>
My second CDM is going to be for the daft fact that I found a JR skid damper fractured on one gasser.. and actually knew I had a spare and found it!
.. now that may not seem such an achievement..until you see my heli-room parts bins..
