Finally started on the road to 3d on sat morning- did a few loops and a roll with a Twister CP -got carried away and tried inverted flight with idle up engaged-comes screaming down inverted and lands in a huge pile of mud carbon blades down- checked it over - NO DAMAGE!!- immediatly took off again for more fun!!!- Trex450 was the dogs nutz's- absolute dream to fly now I sorted out the gyro(401/9254) ..Sunday was a repeat of sat, weather was a bit gloomy but ok- managed to write off Walkera 37 though - flying ok then all of a sudden starts bucking and spinning all over the place, finally planting itself into the ground where it did the funky chicken dance!!!- good ridance to it,crap heli anyway- saved the sp/controller,motor and gyro though... Looking foward to next sat though as I've finally finished my Trex 600CF- YEE HA!!!!

I had a crappy weekend for the helis,

              Sat

              Trex 450
Whilst doing some pyros in forward flight the tail bell crank breaks resulting in out of control tail, only option was a throttle hold and prey landing.....Damage = bent flybar, tail bell crank and feather shaft

              Raptor
Flying spot on all day (11.5 out of 10) and then in the late afternoon I flipped it inverted for a backwards climb out and the engine quits (about 10 foot form the deck) as I start the climb, I managed to get it the right way up but lost to much headspeed in the flip upright it come down a tad hard in the rough..... Damage = Feather shaft, blade grip control arm, cracked tail fin.

              Sunday

              Trex450
Flying F'king great all day, no damage, doing walls with the 450 is scary, got to be fast on the sticks

              Raptor
I decided to give it a tune after yesterdays engine cut, I was forced to use my Trex600 head as the Kasama is out of action for the time being so I have to get used to only 9.5 pitch being available compared to my normal 13.5.
Anyway halfway during the second tank the engine quits during tic tocs, I auto'ed OK and richened the engine (Someone did say the engine sounded weird & I agreed but thought it was because it was cold).

Anyway hovering away doing climb outs and tuning, I land hit throttle hold and the engine quits.............again. This time when I try to start it it is locked solid. I got F'ed off and I thought leave it to I get home. At home I drop the engine out and open it up.

Two bearing balls fall out as I disassemble and there is signs of debris going into the burning room room damaging the piston & head (liner looks OK). The balls are form the main bearing and some of the balls in the main bearing have developed flat spots on them, does any one know what would of caused this?

Anyway, my mate has a new OS50 Hyper and deal was struck and I have just finished installing it. How do you guys run your engines in? (I am using Magnum 30).

engine cuts, blowing plugs and knackered main bearings mean only one thing...

                  too lean.

running in the hyper I do it at 1700-1800rpm. 1.5 turns on the top and a little rich so it doesnt idle reliably and needs the fuel tube pinching to keep it running.

do that for 2 tanks. no big loads, gentle circuits etc without using max pitch.

                  wind it up to 2000

do that for 2 tanks increase the loading a little but again no max pitch.

lean out for max power, keeping the idle a little on the rich side so its tends to stutter when picking it up from idle. and enjoy.

this is assuming your using an mp2

It all started bad for me on friday, went out with the airskipper 50 and my trex, first i was flying the trex inverted low forgot to power out then flip over i just went for the flip and in it went, smashed my nice new Radix blades and tail blades and head,
next went up with the 50 also was inverted and about 9ft off the deck AGAIN forgot to power out and then flip just went for the flip and in she went,
busted boom, main shaft, spindle, tail blades, main blades, main shaft bearings, skids, canopy, main gear, fly-bar, so shot up to midlands saturday spent £104 still need canopy, main gear and fly-bar

Got my rexy back up flying for sunday with help of a friend giving me all the parts needed and first flight was going in to a stall turn and lost the pitch servo and in she went nose first, i have not bothered looking whats needed yet as i can see its alot more than the first crash so she can wait

I have never ran it below 1.5 turns on the main and Saturday was the first time it had a plug go in quite a while. I had never mess with the needles after setting them.

Yes I am using an MP2. Are you sure about the 1.5 turn running? As that is what I was running it normally at. I may go for 2 turns to run in.
I got the 96/11 option gearing on the Raptor so it is revving a little higher and I am running at 2K.

After a flights on my old engine I would estimate the back plate to be around 60C (hold finger on the back plate for at least 10 (long) seconds before felling any burning sensation, do you reckon it that is too hot/lean? It would always accelerate smoothly/cleanly and tick over nice aswell.

I am guessing the old engine is around 8-10 gallons old, the last 3 gallons was maggy 30.

Had a great day on saturday. Sorry guys.

                        flying from 9:30 to 14:00.

Took two helis and 4 planks to the field.
                        All came home unscathed.
Just general cleaning and a check over needed.
The practice is paying off. Feeling a lot more confident with the heli's too, phoenix does help.....

Saturday I flew the Knight for the 1st time into circuits.

All fine seems a stable machine.

Just need to go down and fly it till I bend it.

Sunday got a plank flyer solo after around 8-10 flights so thats one out of the way. just 6 more to sort out.

Had a great day Saturday. Mainly spent hovering tail and a bit of side (no nose in this time!). Some climbouts and some slow forward flight.

I crashed the knight last time and decided I wanted to return with her in one piece.

Geegar was watching me fly and discovered that being "a noob" and as thick as I am, I had had the paddles the wrong way round and were wrongly set. Well I didn't notice it seemed fine to me. He said it could have "exploded in the air".... yeah right. Actually he did look a bit cross with me so another lesson learned.

Loved every minute of it though. The DMHC guys are seriously top geezers I tell ya.

I'll make a confession here and admit that once I put the blades on one of my T-Rexes the wrong way round

Was an education when I took off though, the bird went up and down like a bat out of hell on the stick. Getting it back on the deck without slamming it in was an art in itself

On top of that it took me half an hour more to actually figure out why it was behaving so badly
