Lucky or what

Well was taking the CC500 outside for Its 2nd ever hover and was getting tail issues after it was fine on the bench!

All of a sudden the tail let go in mid hove and started to pirouette lucky for me landed it safe.

On Inspection looks as is the tail shaft bent, IT seiezed the bearing and sheaed the box apart!

The bearings are deffo shafted as they will not spin now! The blades and holder is nowhere to be seen lol!

Nasty!!!!!!!!! I have had that happen with a CopterX tail unit on my 450 a while ago. Did eventually stumble on the missing blade and holder!!!!!

I have noticed that the tail slider CAN let the assembly hit the control arm. You must set your limits up so that this cannot happen or it will hit and....

Using 401 and s9650. Limits are set (were) set spot on. no binding and about 1mm of space.

Looks like a trex 500 shaft be going in there!

its not another issue boxy! its the same one.

stu do you think it was the shaft that let go?? i also had my limits set right down as i dont like a fast piro anyway.
the align shaft cures the problem completely.(which i keep saying but im sure Gareth is now including in the kits)

Well the shaft is deffo bent. And just before it went it started to vibe like hell.

Like Said I was hovering and not even spining the tail so it was not hitting anything!

Either that or was the bearing as the inner bearing is siezed!

mm sounds similar to mine a bad vibe then a squeal like the belt had gone and whoosh round it went. my bearings were still good though so i still would suspect the shaft.
( try bending it straight mine was very easy to bend with a small spanner as a lever)

Yep! HAd the noise as well!

Maybe a free upgrade shaft from CC is in order then and a new tail box!!! Only seems fair tbh.

he's getting a complete new tailbox, cant say fairer than that

edit to add: i'm still not personally convinced the shaft is an issue as it should be under even centrifugal force so shouldnt be able to bend. Any bent shafts have been noted after a hard landing, or tailbox falling apart due to no threadlock. i tried bending the shaft on mine but it was tough!

The point of us sending the kits out was to determine where an issue lies, but im not convinced of the tailshaft, thats all. of course if thats a proven issue, the kit will be updated with an align shaft.

i stripped my trex500 to build one of our 500's which i've flown bone stock for around 12 flights with no issue as yet..

BTW, im not wanting to get into another debate about the kits, just giving my thoughts
