  • Align 2 in 1 lipo options

    Hi,

I've got an Align 2 in 1 on my T600n and I want to get another lipo so I can get more than 4 or 5 flights in a day.

I was just going to get another standard 1900mah Align pack but thought I'd ask what other people are using instead. Obviously weight and size is quite important but some higher capacity options would be good.

So what do you use and where did you get it from ?

    cheers

I'm using an Outrage 3600 pack that i got from Fastlad. Quite a few people using them with good results!

I asked much the same question a few weeks back, and many seemed to be using the Outrage 7.4v pack. However, there are many different options for 7.4v with higher mAh.

As for layout, i used to have my batterys under the nose with a velcro strap, but have since put the 2 in 1 at the bottom and moved the battery to the top so it lies on the slant below the gyro mounting tray.

Have a look on Fastlads for various 7.4v rx batts.

Me too, having looked at what was available I went for this battery and am well pleased. It fits well, has three connnection options and can be fast charged at upto 5c if required. A little heavier than the original but not by much.

            Thanks everyone.

For those using the Outrage 3600 packs, are you flying a 600 and if so how many flights are you getting out of one charge at what sort of flying level ?

Mines is in a 600, I got 4 flights before i crashed it but it was still at 7.8 volts when i tested it with a 1A load so i would have got a few more flights on it. Although that was just hovering and gentle circuits.

I ought to get one of those for my new-to me TREX 700. I haven't flown it yet, but suspect that the 3 JR8915 cyclic servos and the fast tail servo will be drinking the amps even during my normal sport flying. I don't expect that my single 1900mah Align unit will hold out long under those circumstances.

The previous owner of my 600 was getting four flights of pretty hard 3D out of the standard 1900mah pack so I think I'll easily get 5 with my more conservative style. The heli has DS610 on cylcis with a 3003 on throttle and 9256 on the tail..

If I can get 7 or 8 flights out of the outrage pack then it's a good investment and I'll have the align one for back up. I'd rather have 2 packs the same but if there's not much weight difference between them then I can't see that it matters too much..

Yeah, as soon as I get my starting woes sorted and get to actually fly the 700 then I'll know for sure what life expectancy to put on the 1900mah align battery. Trouble is, as soon as a couple of those green lights start going out on the 2 in 1 I'll want to bottle it and either quit flying or replace the rx batt!

if your happy with the standard 1900 pack then why not just buy one more so that you can change them when your out flying.

Si, i was the same as you but the lights on my 2 in 1 are pretty unreliable so i bought a Futaba BR2000 Battery tester. Its set to do a 1A load and gives a digital reading of what voltage is left in the pack under load. They aren't particularly cheap but if it is the difference between one more flight or a crash due to a flat battery then I think its worth it.

Those were my original thoughts and I may still go that way.

Just thought I'd see what other tried and tested options were open to me.

Yeah, I use a battery checker too, but not sure what load it applies. As I said in my earlier post I tend to err on the side of caution too, so extra batts are almost certainly necessary.

I must say though, this whole Lipo rx battery thing is starting to feel like a bit of a faff. My Raptor uses sub-C nimh batts that stay in the model, don't (appear to) suffer from the cold, last for ages and can be charged easily in-situ. Dead easy. The TREX 700 on the other hand needs to have the lipo brought indoors 'cos it's so cold in the garage right now, needs to be charged with specialist kit, and is a pain to get to with the standard canopy mounts.

                            whinge, whinge, whinge, whinge....

Yeah my Raptor has a Sub C pack in it as well but the 600 came with the regulator so I just bought the bigger Lipo for it!
