Your right there Gerd, goods normally have to returned in the same condition they were received in if its "cooling" time, although clever wording can usually bring any outcome the writter desires.Originally posted by PsiLo View PostThis is true, but it would be a tricky one if you have modified the item (e.g. soldered a deans onto a lipo) as they could claim you damaged it by doing so.

Always worth keeping the various legal protections clear in our minds.Originally posted by lex7919 View PostYour right there Gerd, goods normally have to returned in the same condition they were received in if its "cooling" time, although clever wording can usually bring any outcome the writter desires.
If you want to return goods, no questions asked, then you are working under the Distance Selling Regulations and yes, for those you have to keep the goods in the same condition as you received them so once you solder on the deans you can't use the DSR to return them.
However this doesn't give them an excuse to duck their other obligations under the Sales of Goods Act and the more recent Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations.
If you supply a product in the full and certain knowledge that in order to use the product the consumer must modify it with the addition of a connector, you can't then point to that modification as a universal get-out from any other liabilities as a retailer.
However, if the fault is directly related to the modification then you have a case. So if for example the 'fault' was a battery wire falling off the pack and the wire was obviously damaged through the use of excessive heat during the process of soldering on the deans plug then they would have a point.
The real problem with LiPo's though is the ease with which we can damage them during use and the difficulty you'd have in proving that the fault wasn't caused by misuse.
For this reason alone there are some retailers I'd never buy from as you want to deal with people who go into the problem with an open mind, not those seeking to find reasons not to help you out.
Never judge a retailer based on 20 or 30 posts all saying 'my order arrived quickly' look for the ones that tell you how they handled a faulty product as that gives you a much better idea of who you are dealing with.

I too have never had a problem with Giantcod and have had 2 faulty lipos replaced withouth any issue. However, since this thread started I have been reading the forums at GC and elsewhere, and was disgusted to see the Refunds forum and the way he derides his customers on there. Yes, some of them are blatantly in the wrong, but his whole attitude sucks.Originally posted by ChrisBNever had a problem with giant cod, have purchased ESC`s for planes and lipos from them in the past.

Whilst they may be a little cheaper on most of the packs I would buy from them, I am now put off giving any more money to any company that treats customers in that way. Concept will get my business for Tipple packs in the future

I've bought from Giant Cod and now avoid if at all possible, had some faulty servo's and got them refunded after about a month (so I lost out on postage to replace) but its a palava, involves sending them back to somewhere else and chasing several times.
If you want cheap lipos with no warranty, you can do much better from Hong Kong - hobbyking etc !
Or if you want some backup you can get very good priced packs in the UK from shops who will back up what they sell, robotbirds have very good prices on the tipple packs at the moment - worth a look there too, I bought a 2300 3S tipple pack this week for £17.60 which I thought was a great price.Last edited by jamesb72; 26-02-2010, 10:34 AM.

I am completely neutral about GC. But when I bought the Loong Max Lipos from them Concept Copters was not open yet.
If I was buying more LiPos now I'd buy them from Concept Copters and let them solder the deans on because I hate soldering
