  • Darren @ Rapid Rotors

Wow what a fantastic day. As some of you guys know Darren from rapid rotors has been unwell and not training. Well today he took my mate Chris and myself on for some training only 3 hours (1 for Chris and 2 for me) as he wanted to go easy to start with which was cool with us.

The guy is amazing. In 1 hour he got Chris from bounce, bounce crash on his heli with training gear to take off hover about and land without the gear and with confidence.

Myself in 2 hours I went from basic hovering to side on, nose in static hover then on to 90deg stop hovers to flying circuits. Not only that but also recovering when it went wrong without even thinking about. In fact it sounds strange but a couple of times I was flying about and asked him if he had control and he said no I was flying. I know that sounds weird but because you are buddy boxed and following the stick movements automatically your flying without realizing it. It's hard to explain until you have done it.

I really, really, really, can not rate Rapid Rotors and Darren highly enough. £35 per hour using all his kit and fuel, but the first time he caught my dumb thumb when nose in paid for the whole day.

Thank you and welldone Darren glad your back.

PS. I would like to also thank my girlfriend Julie for the best and most useful present of at least the last 5 years.

I met up with Darren on Thursday and must say he becoming more like his old former self every time we meet. Thursday saw me on the raw end of one of his practiacal jokes with another friend of his slapping a wheel clamp on my works van and siezure stickers on the window. LOL

Back on track he's a teriffic instructor and well worth every penny.

Darren has asked me to say thanks to everyone for their kind comments and support. He's about halfway through his chemotherapy and is enjoying the rare good days between treatments, he is looking forward to getting back to teaching hopefully by May/June.
Rapid Rotors will continue to offer tuition with Peter and myself until Darren is well enough to return to work.
Thanks again for your support through this difficult time.

The site is just outside Kelevdon, if you contact them via the website or email they will be able to give you proper directions, also you obviously need to book in advance.
If you have booked and are still struggling, PM me your email address and I will forward details to you.

Look on the A12 between Witham and Colchester. It is spelt Kelvedon I think thats your issue. 142.9 miles 2hrs 33mins. I drove 1 1/2hrs to get there, and it is worth driving 2 1/2 hrs in my opinion.
