Crash Kit

Having just finished my build, and then chickened out of the maiden until I get some training gear, I was wondering what are the common spares I might need.

I mean a crash is inevitable, all that is in question is the severity. This got me thinking I might as well buy some spares now, and then when it happens I can get right back to fixing it, rather than having to wait for bits to turn up.

What do you guys have on hand as a crash repair kit? What are the bits that break pretty much every time?

Oh yea, it's a Concept Copters 450 which is a clone of the Align Trex 450 SEv2

Well, the usual suspects are:

Blades (main and tail)
Main Shaft
Feathering Shaft
Flybar
Main and Tail Drive Gear
Tail Drive Belt

However, as Fast Lad and other good suppliers get the bits to you in quick time, I chose to hold no spares at all. Let the money tied up in stock sit on their shelves, not yours.

Having said that, as I've had a crash on my 500 and 450, most of the spares packs come with two items in a bag, so I do have some spares in stock.

I agree with martin.

I go through Main gears and tail gears all the time, and you are always going to need flybars, but also have a couple of booms in stock as well. It's also worth having the plastic canopy posts (if you havent got them already) as the metal ones tear out of the frame in a hard crash.

But dont bottle out of the maiden, there's nothing on that heli that you cant cant get next day delivery! Get out there now! It'll be dark if you hang about any longer!

I say not to get any spares too. I tend to break the skids everytime in a crash, the boom can go along with the supports too. Plus there is no point shelling out loads of cash on spares when you may not crash for months (your on training gear)

Essentially the plastic gears, they strip easy.
Probably good to get a bag of hardware aswell, they contain screws, linkage balls and ball links.

Was so going to go and fly it today but have now decided to wait for the training gear, I may not like it but I would be gutted if I end up rolling it over on it's first flight after I have built it.

good for waiting mate, training gear will help .
Youll have to beat me to the 450 spares if any come up lol , havent been any ive noticed since ive had my 450, theres a canopy, tail fins and landing gear up for sale but I dont need them at the mo.

But as mart said, FL and probably a few others do next day so atleast then you can have some break time before flying again.

If your not confident then get some more practice in on the sim. Hovering needs to become second nature so if your crashing in the sim then you will on your newly built heli. Spend lots of time here and you will enjoy your first flight more.

I spent a few weeks on sim, but you need to get out other wise you start fearing your first flight, it is nerve wracking but get the first few over and youll be set weebl.

I can hover on the sim, although if I try it with the 450 size it is a bit twitchy, the 600 or 700 I can hover reasonably well, at least tail in.

Sim is one thing, real is another especially as I have yet to see it airborne under it's own power. Once I know how it will behave and react, and it is pretty well trimmed out I will probably lose the training gear.

Exactualy how I feel, just getting to the behavour of how it flys then moving on.

good luck to you mate, i shake like hell when im trying to hover my 450, but sunday i took my trainer gear off for the last bat, and bloody hell it was the best, still smiling about it now, good luck and dont rush, plenty of slow and small stick movements
