  • SAA Inadequate?

No this is not a dig at the SAA in favour of the RCHA. I am not a member of the RCHA.

I recently witnessed the SAA issuing several people with the wrong certificate and badge.
One was a member who passed his Hovering certificate and received a Silver award.

To the clubs credit they asked the member to remove the patch displaying the wrong level of achievement and when the member refused the club asked again but stronger.

The member reluctantly did what was asked.

My point is the SAA issued the wrong awards and what if the people used the award s at events or other clubs?

Not good organisation in my books

No i dont hate or dislike the SAA just telling what i saw.

    Ha ha, seriously now...

You saw someone being given the wrong badge and that leads you to question the adequacy of an entire organisation?

By these standards every organisation on earth be they current, in the past or just a mere figment of someones imagination doesn't meet your standards, armies, religion, governments and everyone else makes simple administrative errors and then sets them right (occasionally) it's hardly grounds for condemning an entire organisation.

Actually it was not a statement. That's why there was a question mark

Also ive had personal dealings with the SAA and i personally (note the word personally) found the response inadequate. Thats after chasing several committee members of the organisation for weeks for a response to a problem.

So im glad at least that i have provided you with a smile at least

              Hi J2tgw

              Actually i did see it.

I saw it on his hat.

              I was there.

I know it was sorted. And as i said the club in question handled it correctly .

Hi Asid, like any organisation there are shortfalls and sometimes the wheels turn a little slower than we would like but you have to remember the SAA is a totally voluntary organisation.

Administrative errors do occur but for someone 'accepting' an un-tested qualification in itself makes them a little 'dodgy' in my book and as such should have been disciplined/removed from Club/SAA membership IMHO.

On your renewable membership slip it asks a member to check any pilot ratings and where necessary notify the SAA of any discrepencies.

I would liken this to filling out an insurance form and making a false decleration. Both require honesty and should the unthinkable occur it would not be the SAA taking him to court but the CAA and all its might.

                      cheers Brian

Like i said i don't have an axe to grind.

The club handled it very well.

                        The situation was resolved.

I do agree with what you say Barney
