Having watched the VT it does look like it was the tail that caused the crash, the heli seems to get into an uncontrollable piro, maybe he should have hit the throttle hold a little sooner.

Exactly what I was thinking Gav. While it is good to have a laugh at other peoples expenses if they make plonkers of themselves, the case here was that this pilot crashed and burned. By the looks of things despite having lost all control of the tail managed to bring it down into a safe area, and I don't believe it was just luck as it landed (if you can call it that) in the middle of a polo pitch.

Tragic that is for sure, as for how much influence he was able to have as to where it landed I guess we will never know. One thing is for sure, it could have been a lot worse.

Rob, I just don't think it's coincidence that it plowed into that pitch. The odds are way slim looking at what surrounds it. I'm not saying he had much control as the heli was probably vearing in a direction that he had no control of that intersected the polo pitch. He might of had some control over altitude via collective and when he had the opportunity just went in hard to ensure he didn't overshoot the pitch.

When you guys bring in rc helis with a failure of any sort, most of you guys on here comment on what a nice save it was.

grow up and turn your brains on! i lost a family member in 93 in a heli accident,he was a cadet in the wessex that had massive tail failure and went into a welsh lake! Mark oakden was my cousin !heres quite a intresting story about the incident!

I'm glad somebody brought this subject up.


I like a laugh with the best of them but a family lost a loved one in this tragic accident.

Sean, I respect you for bringing this news to the forum but I'm saddened that people can make jokes about the helicopter coming down for whatever reason killing the pilot.
