  • Whats the max wind speed I should fly in ??

After my crash yesterday with my Blade 400 was just wondering what sort of wind speeds are considered ok to fly in and what would be to much?

Hard to tell somtimes and when you get down to the field it is always seems to be more windy than it was when you left home!

On a serious note though, with my Blade400 tend to fly in brisk winds at max (5-8mpg at a guess), only due to the fact that when the wind gets ontop of the blades it tends to like to throw it towrds the ground. LOL

Bear in mind that the wind strength will increase from the surface; it's why you see good golfers looking at the upper branches of trees to try get a feel for the true wind.
A 450, I don't really like much more than 5 to 10 mph, but that will go up to 15 to 20 mph for a 600.
Really, if you are thinking about it being too strong, then it probably is and so take the pack off and save the copter!!!!!!!

Being a novice myself, I am much happier when flying in light winds of around 3-5mph whenever possible.
But have been out in stronger winds of around 8-10mph which is ok but you need to be prepared for those gusts that can tend to make the heli rise or fall unexpectedly. Its those gusts that screw me up. Steady winds are less of a problem.

we have some tall trees I can see from my window I think from now on if they are moving at the top then I wont fly..in june when I get my Trex 500 maybe I can push it a bit more

Anymore than 20mph and I just dont find it fun, instead i end up just trying to wrestle the wind.

I never used to take my blade out in anything more than a fart of wind, once you are more confident you will take it out in more and more wind, until you get to a point that you think thats windy enough.

From then on anything less than that you will know you can fly fine in.

After a while you just know, you get a feel for when it's too bad to fly.

I dont find strong winds too much of a problem, especially in forward flight, but gusts are what catch you out.

15MPH is a bir hairy for a 400-450. 500 or bigger no probs but may need a bush for shelter to land lol

No. I always cross dress when I fly my 450, if it's windy my dress keeps blowing up and its a struggle to hold it down and keep my fingers on the sticks!
