  • Which weather forecast?

'Just curious if you guys have found one particular weather forecast to be more accurate.

There is 'metcheck', the BBC, the Met office, something called 'myweather2' which the Kempton Park racecourse uses. And they are all a bit different, ranging from partly sunny for tomorrow to light rain.

I must admit I have been finding metchech somewhat erratic recently

The BBC seems a little more consistent....ish.

The best one by far is looking out the window

Always XC, See what BBC has to say, then check xc to see if they've got it right.
Its far more accurate to specific areas. Find the nearest airport or RAF station to where you are, click on it & it gives you conditions at that time & predicted conditions every 2 hours. Wind, direction, rain & cloud.
Blade CX2 - Alloy heads & swash, Flyrcrivesud carbon boom, extended centre shaft, canopy & landing gear.

                  Hi

One thing which is far more weather dependant than heli's is Paragliding so this means I have developed a almost obsesive interest in the weather so fairly sure on the whole the metoffice is generaly the most accurate although their wind model is wrong a little, giving more wind than your likely to get in winter and less in summer.
Of course law of averages means some times one of the site will always be spot on and others a mile out!

                  Cheers
                  Bob

Yeah, if the BBC forecast can be trusted it is showing some sun in the afternoon and 8 degrees so I'm aiming to get there about 11.

IMHO xcweather is the one. Having been a power kiter and heli flier I have had an unhealthy obsession with wind speeds! From my experience, the BBC is totally unreliable, metcheck is pretty good (as is the met office) but for wind speed and general weather conditions then XCweather wins hands down.

short term (3 days ahead) Wind Map - Britain Observations is best.

If you want to get really into it:
                        WeatherOnline z T 500 hPa
There you can pick the time on the left and pick the forecast model on the top and go into the future and see if there is any agreement. when they don't agree then its all bolox. If they agree they might be right.
Its all there, isobars at different altitudes, etc etc

If anyone understands "blipmaps" I'd like to....

I'm using a combination of BBC and metcheck.

I have put a BBC weather feed at the bottom of our club's website home page. Click the club logo in my sig to see.
