  • Looking for an Indoor Heli group in Essex

    Hi all,
I'm new to electric Helis (been flying fixed wing for years),I'm looking for a indoor site to fly in the Maldon or Chelmsford area.

    Can anyone suggest one ?

    thanks for your help

HI Peter, Welcome to the hobby of heli's, what sort of heli do you have, I am a member of the Colchester club, we have a monthly mixed indoor flying session, but dont know of any more than that.

      Hi Rob,
I've got a Walkera 60 (something nice and cheap to break ! ) getting on reasonably well with it , got it hovering under some form of control , I'm looking for somewhere to fly out of the wind and rain (aren't we all ?) preferably where I can meet other like minded heli addicts !!

      Regards

      Peter

Well if you can travel about 200 miles west theres a good meet in gloucester!

        Maybe not eh?

Indoors is great with small helis. it's so much better with no wind.

I've got a Walkera 60 aswell, there are a few similar at my club, 35's 36's, another 60 and my brothers APLUS 400 and lastly a Viper 70. I'll be putting my 60 up in a fortnights time when the upgrades have arrived and been fitted.

One thing to watch for is iterference. the steel structure of our basketball court venue seems to play tricks on the radio if more than 2 or three are flying.

good luck hope you find a good venue.

          Hi Iceman ,
I think 200 miles is a bit far !! I'm mad but not that mad....although I was standing in the back garden getting some hover practice and it was -3 deg C , I couldn't feel my fingers by the end of the second battery pack.
I've been so impressed with the Walkera 60 , I'd read so many posts slagging it off I was a little worried but it's been really good.
What upgrades are you getting ?
I was thinking of a brushless motor for mine but not sure if there is any major advantages.
Where do you get your bits from ?

          Regards

          Peter

something that helps a lot is spreading the transmitters out when people are flying. I cant remember why it happens but if you have 3 people standing shoulder to shoulder then the signals add up and you will see extra frequencies on the scanner.

spread the pilots out 10ft and the freqs will dissappear.

also a DSP reciever like the schulze or hyperion will help a lot.

I would be interested in an indoor venue also, I spend about 3 - 4 days a week in Chelmsford at the moment, some something to keep me away from work in the hotel room or out of the curry house would be good

Anyone know of any Church halls - maybe they would be cheap to hire for the night ?

Our club (Southend Radio Flying Club) hold an indoor session every month on a friday. We hire one MASSIVE hall, 10 badmington courts, from the Southend Tennis and Leisure centre.

It is open to anyone, and the sessions are from 8.30pm untill its time to go home

For non club members it is £10 per session. Pricey I know, but we currently have the largest hall in the area, and so hiring it aint cheap, so the cost reflects that.

anyone wanting details just contact me via the website (I run it)
