  • Heli B Cert - FBL Question

I've been reading up on the heli B test as I'm planning on taking it this summer, and have just noticed this line

No artificial stabilisation of the helicopter is allowed other than a tail rotor gyro.

Do you think this includes FBL units?

I think the flybar is an artificial stabilisation system and the FBL is a virtual flybar.

I think the Heli Command or FMA Co Pilot is what the BMFA are referring to.

With FBL as I understand it if the model is going in it's going in. With Heli Command if the model is going to crash you let go of the sticks and the command system stabilises the model for you.

          FBL units are not aloud.

          Quote from the BMFA.

The use of any autopilot and/or artificial stability features which are (or may be) designed
into such units beyond the definition above is not acceptable during the test and is not
          allowed.

Guy, I read same info some time ago you can go FBL but not with" artificial stabilisation other than a tail rotor gyro.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Yea but you couldnt fly an FBL without artificial stabilisation?

This has been the main reason I haven't bought the Align FBL for my 600E as I want to use that for my B test this year. It's a shame really but I do have a VBar on my Logo though so at least I have one FBL heli.

I guess it boils down to the differeence between mechanical and electrical stabilisation then?

Personally - its a load of tosh.....the heli will not fly itself it has no self orientating/leveling system within it. If you take your hands off the sticks it will end up in the dirt.
                      Cheers

                        just read the above and,,

If you let go of the sticks with a FBL system does the heli stay in the same place?

if not then the BMFA are wrong imo for including them as not allowed

a fix wing will keep flying if its well trimmed but a heli will drift,, even the best of them.

                          Agree with Stuart,,

BMFA are way out of date imho

I can see what the BMFA are saying, that you cant use heli command or other such systems, but by using the wording, "artificial stabilisation" they are kind of ruling out FBL units.

If a heli or FW is fitted with a system that enables it to fly,,
surely it is not within this category

                              Q. how long did it take the BMFA to realise electronic tail gyro systems were being used and alow
them to be used and added the wording to their rules ?
