  • trex 700 clutch

    Evening all
After taking my 700 out this weekend for the first time in 2 months,
my clutch's one way bearing's buggered

My last clutch lasted around 65 flight before it snapped a shoe,
This ones less than 10 flights old

I stripped it out last night and re greased it ,Hasn't made any difference

I know there not expensive BUT it's the pain of dropping the engine AGAIN

I think i may just go for the QUK replacement

Anyone have one last less than 10 flights ???

    cheers

Strangely at our field yesterday everyone was having problems with their starter shaft one-ways and Shaun's (Bart101) one-way in the brand new clutch in his 700 was slipping too, I'm guessing the cold weather has something to do with it, shrinking shafts & all

Shaun's Sullivan starter shaft one-way was playing up and Lee's Robbe version was doing the same. I did have problems with my Robbe shaft last year but cleaned out the bearing and oiled it with a very light teflon oil and no real problems since - maybe if their greased the grease gets a little too thick in the cold and stops the rollers moving enough to grip the shaft?

I had all sorts of problems starting the new 700. The bottom line is: engine out twice - once to check the nut on the crankshaft was really tight and second to fit the QUK clutch (I also suspected that the one-way bearing was slipping). I have removed the Robbe wand as it only has a single grub screw to hold to the starter shaft, and fitted a Sullivan wand - hey presto no more problems.

You could be right about the cold weather as i've just tried in the house and
guess what , Can't get it to slip???? At the field it would slip 4/5 times then grip on the 6th attempt.

I'm using the robbe wand BUT that was working ok , just the clutch one way

I know this has been asked before BUT what are you using to lube your one way bearing?? Oil or Grease???
        cheers

I'm using Triflow oil Fast Lad Performance, although I have a much larger bottle I bought from Midland a couple of years ago, although they no longer show it on their website

I found it best to flood the bearing with lighter fluid first to clean out the old oil/grease, wait for it to dry then lube with Triflow. I took this route because I know that Raptor's had problems with their oneways and it was recommended to lubricate them with ATF.

            Hey there,

I may have a complete clutch assembly sat at home doing nothing.

As far as I remember it's brand new and still in the packet. If I still have it, I'll check this evening you're welcome to it.

            Cheers,
