Radix blade balance..

I always carry out the COG test and then balance my blades on a 450/600 blade balancer bit of kit I have.

I think the 690 radix blades are gonna be a little too big/heavy for this. SO.

Are you radix main blade users blade balancing prior to use, or so confident in this brand that you're just whacking em on the heli without any balance procedure!!!!!

Is it generally true that blade balance becomes more important with larger helis?

I haven't balanced a set of main blades since the very first set of woodies I got with my first helicopter (Raptor 30).

Wow. Have you always used expensive blades or just been lucky.

I must admit that today, I thought that if I didn't balance the blades, would they track better straight away - as designed, or does my balancing them then mean that tracking is required!!!!

I've never balanced a set of Radix, other than when i made a pair out of 2 individual blades. Always spot on

A perfectly balanced pair of blades can still be out on the tracking and several things can affect the tracking.

What puzzled me was once when my Raptor was tracking perfectly, then without changing anything in the linkage it was out the next time I flew it!

I always check all of mine mine, Radix included. But, I've never had to make any adjustments to this brand. It's a peace of mind thing.

I have just balanced a set of 710 FAI Radix. The balancing was carried out using a Koll Rotor Pro enabling the C of G of the cord as well as the span.

The weight difference between the two blades was .01 of a gram, and balance in the span was spot on and cord was so minimal that no practical adjustment could be under taken.

Based on that, bolt them on!

Not had a flight with it yet. Getting the parts together & probably use it as a spring project. Hence the radix blade question. Final part to understand is the head & all its complexities.

I'll get there & really looking forward to flying it. It's a nice bit of kit, that's for sure.

I went from the woodies to cheap carbon blades early on.
Then took to V Blades for quite a while.
Then tried all sorts of mid/top carbon blades and never ever had an issue
Could be luck I guess, but I just think they (blade manufacturers) mostly get it right these days.

I always check the blades for CofG irrespective of size or manufacturer. Generally, the bigger the blade, the more consistent the carbon fibre distribution seems to be, hence they balance!! With the smaller blades, like 325s for my 450, woodies will almost certainly not balance, and cf pairs will be pretty close, but might need a "bit" to get them spot on.
True also is that no matter how perfect your blades are, a poor head set-up will give tracking error. A meticulous set-up routine will reap rewards.........
