  • Fix one thing ..... clutch gone...

typical, I got my new starting gear today, field battery, power panel, new starter etc.. wired it all up and thought I'll just spin the engine over to get an idea of the power of the starter.

First turn made an odd noise but turned the engine fine, next go starter just spins away and the engine does not move...

I'm guessing the one way bearing in the clutch has pooped itself. I put a new starter shaft in not so long ago and now I need a new clutch.

I can still fly as it will catch eventually but I'm sure it'll only get worse.

    It's a Raptor 30 V2... (I presume its the same parts between 30 and 50)

So can I get just the bearing or do I have to buy a whole clutch? I'm guessing the later..

Should I replace or at least put a new liner in the clutch bell ?

I can get the standard part (PV0359) or maybe I should upgrade given the opportunity. Any recommendations ??

On the up side the new starting set up has loads of power so shouldn't get any problems starting now...

    cheers

yes most of the raptor parts are the same with engine mount/belt/boom on the 50 being the major differences.

Er I tryed to fly sunday took 3 models....

All 3 needed something doing to them and there all grounded until fixed!

I must remember to go over thing's that have been stood for 2 months and needed work before I try to fly them DOH!!!!

Coincidentally, my Raptor 50 is making annoying metalic clicking noise when starting. My first thought was the one-way bearing in the clutch but I changed the clutch when I put the OS46 engine in there and if memory serves I think it was making that same sound before.

On another forum it was suggested it might be the starting shaft. Since the shaft is cheap and logically it is the common denominator, so I have ordered one and will see what happens.

I kinda wish there was a way to just eliminate the one-way bearing because all my starting wands have their own bearings.

It starts OK, just makes a bit of a racket.

          Yep, same clicking noise here.

I will look at both but since my start shaft is new and the bearing as old as the heli then I would suspect the later in my case.

I'll fly it this w/e and then replace it with either a standard part or upgraded item, which for some reason are cheaper in FL than the OE part.

          cheers

I had a look the other day and it seems like the clutch is about £10.00 but the shaft is really cheap and I might even have a spare clutch around here somewhere. I think I have an Ely.Q clutch and starting shaft as well but I'm not sure if it will fit.

So we'll see by trying that first.

I've just ordered a 'heavy duty' clutch from FL. £10.37 delivered.

If it's in my box then if it gives up at the w/e I can replace it.

well for those who are interested I replaced the clutch in my Raptor and all is well again, now more metal clicking sounds, so it was the one way bearing in the clutch that had given up.

Just hope the new clutch picks up the same as the old one as I really can't be hastled with a new liner too. I just want to fly it now.

                thanks
