Setting Up Pitch Range with Flybarless Heli`s

Hi all

I`m having a play with my two V Barred T Rexs and was wondering how people are setting up their pitch ranges.

When using a Mikado should it be done in set up mode so the control loop is disconnected and the swash stays level?

Seems a bit hit and miss.

Thoughts?

Get an inclinometer that you would use on a table saw. Zero it on the boom of the helicopter then stick it on one of the main blades.

Yeah I`ve got one of these set up on an old pitch gauge.

Just wondering really whether the flybarless system itself needs to be in a set up mode to ensure the most accurate readings.

As I mentioned with my Mikados the swash doesnt always stay level when the heli is just sat there as if ready to fly - sometimes you have a partial tilt.

Supposed to be normal that ..

If you switch the model on and you put the collective stick to mid point for zero degree pitch and leave the cyclic alone you are saying the swash will not be level?

How does that work then?

Sometimes when on the test bench the swash doesn`t always sit level.

According to Mikado as long as all is leveled at mid,high and low stick in setup mode all should be OK for flight.

I did question this and was told that once the blades `bite` and you don`t touch cyclic on lift off the system should take over.

If I understand the root of this thread correctly the question relates to the pitch setting procedure in VBar right?

The way I do it is as follows:

Firstly ensure the CG calcs are correct here Calculate CG | CG Berechung following closely the part that relates to 11Degrees at 80points of collective slider, this is important as it allows the assessment of the correct servo horn hole which is not necessarily a given, be warned as it depends upon many factors!

Now once properly adjusted as per above you can set the max overall pitch remember that the "geometry correction" box also effects this measurement. I always default this setting to "on" but it's your preference.

Now set the radio pitch curves in the normal way, all the above assumes the PCsoft is in setup mode and when you switch back to flight mode it might change slightly but this is OK and is owing to the control loops becoming active.

I also leave the expo to linear thereby allowing fine control from the Tx.
Now go fly, but remember to run the optimizer and do a trimflight
PS Clicker trim is forbidden so don't use it!

FYI all my helis are set using this method which has been validated by VStabi forum.
