  • Helicopter injury thread - tell me, show me.....

I've seen a couple of pictures on this forum where helis and flesh have come together.

It has helped me to develop and retain a healthy fear of those blades.

I'm interested to hear about any injurys you have had, or any injurys you know which have happened to others, due to RC helicopters. Perhaps novices like me will learn what to do and what not to do from others mistakes and mishaps.

Pictures are welcome (the old saying; a picture paints a thousand words)

    Regards,

    Tony

Not got a good pic cant see much. But lost my site in my left eye for a cpl months. Had a flybar paddle clip frame on my V2 and hit me in eye full spin. Torn the Iris, scrated cornera and brused the retna.

Spent the night on a drip in hospital on a drip as went into shock. Still not got great vision now, letters are blured into each other sometimes. U C V W all look same on number plates from distance.

Things like this make me ponder the idea of some kind of goggles or impact resistant glasses no matter how dorky they look. It's a small target so you'd think the odds are low and yet I have heard of a few eye injuries from something flying off a heli.

one guy in Germany had his thumb torn off last summer when trying to measure headspeed on his 600E with a tach. They found the thumb 30 m away, and reattaching it failed.
When I read about it last, he had the choice of having his index finger or one of his toes amputated and put in place of the thumb. He also spent several weeks with the hand sewn to his belly to transfer tissue.

            Nasty business. Made me think...

BTW I've got a small scar on my hand from a burning ESC

This is why I like the soft start align escs, spins the blades up nice and slow.
