  • Why I love this hobby!

Having watched my club mates enjoying the increase in power that the OS-55 has given them I decided over Christmas to invest in one myself.

I slapped it in straight away but cause the weather was so bad I didnt get out to fly it until a few days later, I ran it in, gently hovering for a couple of tanks, but with temps of -2 it was hard to guage the correct running temperature and once our fingers had frozen up we decided to call it a day without getting to tune it properly.

The following Sunday I had another go but couldnt get it started, went in stripped & cleaned the carb and fitted a new glow.

A couple of days later I managed to get out again only to discover that the new glow plug was cattled, didnt have a spare with me so gave up again.

More poor weather meant no flying, but Sunday (yesterday) was looking great until I found out I'd have to work. Sunday came, it was beautiful out there, so with much anguish I managed to get done by 12:30, a mad dash from central London to Slough got me to the field in 40 minutes and ready to go!

Anytime now I too would feel the awsome power!

Filled her up did a climbout, leaned it off, pinch test, climbout, leaner, still plenty smoke, warm backplate, leaner, pinch test, climbout, she's ready!

So I decided to bring her in, so I could fill her up before giving it the full beans. But as I came in, 2 feet off the ground, the bloody clutch fell to bits!!!!

    Hows my luck?

Well it's still better than my day at the field a few weeks ago when I absolutely could not get the engine started and after hours fiddling with it eventually gave up and went home ('had a quick flight with the 450 but by that time I was the only one there and my energy and enthusiasm was drained). But a good lesson was learned about being prepared and all that stuff, plus I do need the exercise (and it is a loooooooong walk from the flying area to the station).
