Firstly, I agree with the sentiment that if the heli flyer flew from the pits onto the active flight line then he should not be claiming anything.
However, having spent most of last year in the middle east there are a few things to bear in mind. If your mate is not an arab and the guy he hit is an arab then generally it will be classed as your mates fault, it's the way things are in the middle east.
Secondly, the price could easily be £850 for repairs out there. The parts for Align were at least double the cost when I was there and it is not easy to just ship stuff in from outside the Gulf states. I never even found a stockist that had Synergy, probably only 1 in the region so they will charge what they want!
