Brian,Cheers for agreeing. Some people think that because a 500 is one step above a 450 that they are cheap,It would have been cheaper for me to get a 600 mate as it's the lipos that cost the money £££.

And most leccy helis cost more than nitros anyway, for example a top of the line Motor & ESC can cost a whole lot more than a nitro engine.Take a look at the Hacker range for instance, silly, silly prices for leccy motors and ESC's.

    Cheers Grant.

My concern is that a bunch of the heli may have been salvageable and not a complete write-off.

My mate, being a man of his word, said he'd pay for the damage and he's said he will, no matter what the cost.
I feel for your mate, Martin. Would it be possible for your friend to ask for a list of gear that needs replacing? Then you could cost it up for him, and see if this guy is extracting the urine.

Certainly, Grant, 500s are not cheap, especially if you buy one from Tim, where everything is the bees knees, and built to the highest spec.

Anyway, sorry, Martin, don't want to hijack your thread.

No worries Brian - I enjoy seeing the varying opinions.

I could do but the guy's pretty much said he'll cough up the dough. He's 3000 miles or more away so I'm gonna let him run with it.

He's appreciative of the help tho - I cut and paste a few of your replies and sent them to him in an email.

It's still a bummer, tho. Your mate is obviously an honourable guy, but he has this suspicion that he's being ripped off.

Never mind the cost, how can a mid-air ever be 100% one persons fault!?

Your friend seems a pretty decent guy to be even considering paying up so much, I can't see how it is so clearly his full responsibilty?

I say this knowing none of the facts of course.

              Tim.

Funnily enough, yes. I was email-chatting to my mate today and he's agreed to cough up the dough.

It would seem, however, that the rules and regulations that govern such clubs in his part of the world are somewhat "lax" should we say. Turned out the heli pilot was actually hovering in the pits and then flew off to the flight line when the crash occurred.

Flying in the pits is a no-no there too and, as such, his entry onto the flight line was unexpected and, in my view, the heli pilot is to blame.

However my mate, being the nice guy he is, is sticking to his word. He said he'll pay and he will.

Me? I'd have kicked up a stink.

Crikey, wish he was the bloke flying Trevs glider instead of Trev when my Erwin was taken out of the sky.

He's being little fleased at £850, pity when a decent bloke gets taken advantage of.

Well, the only thing I don't know is the price of spares etc in DXB. I guess they may be more?

To be honest, however nice you are you shouldn't be expected to pay, as toys CRASH. It's just part of the hobby! Maybe if he went up when the heli was flying around, then it would be a different story, but again, you shouldn't be expected to pay.

Well, if it is a 500, then 850 seems a bit steep!

I'm sure the gyro wouldn't be damaged, or the engine if it's nitro...

                          There's my view

No concellation I know, but there are laws out there about this:
                              http://www.ksw.org.uk/files/ccf/acp%...0the%20air.pdf
The Rules of the Air Regulations 1991

And on the surface it would appear that BMFA insurance may not exclude a claim:

Peace: Being left alone to examine the new bits you've just bought!

My thoughts exactly,if the plane was already in the air then the heli pilot is to blame 100% i would tell him where to stick his £850 lol, Takin off from the pits and straying onto an active flight line in my opinion is a chuck out of club offence. Your m8 should tell him to do one!!!!
