Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I am not insured so cannot fly at my club [ or indeed anyone elses ].
Despite sending my cheque to the BMFA in early Dec, I have confirmed that it has not been actioned yet. So therefore I am not covered? I have already paid into the RCHA with a "non-insurance" payment of £15, so if I were to join to get insurance, I would have to pay another £30 for the "with insurance" membership, on top of the £29 wasted with BMFA.

    So I am stuffed.

Had joined the BMFA prior to joining my present Club, so they have nothing to do with the policy. I applied direct to BMFA to renew the membership/policy, and I had a look at my online statements which indicated that [so far] the cheque has not been actioned.
So, I reckon I am not covered??????????

It is such an antique system, relying on the post , and cheques.

if you do it through the club then you are insured as soon as the money is given and a slip given back .... I paid mine over the phone by card so am sorted as I like to fly new years day ..... I would have rung em to see if they recieved it ... sometimes takes the bmfa a while to cash stuff ..

Am in New York at he moment, and have sent BMFA an email to confirm receipt, but it is Sat after new year, so nothing much will be done. Don't know what else I can do, as I was hoping to go fly on Monday.

I wonder if BMFA thought it was a 2010 application and are/were holding it until 01/01/2010?

            Maybe not!

Sent my renewal a while back too but no cert arrived has yet - am I insured?

Just going to check to see if the cheque has been paid.

If you provide payment to the club then with immediate effect your covered, if your doing it direct you need some confirmation that the funds have been recieved and accepted. Atleast on CC this is a phone call....

I would happily refund your £15 - so that you can do the paypal option and recieve your cert on e-mail - but this still leaves you having to take out BMFA cover to fly within your club.

The best I would suggest is to ring the BMFA on Monday and secure your cover or using bank direct payment send funds to your club. Pain I know but in the long run better.
              Cheers

BMFA doesnt just rely on post & cheques you can phone them weekdays & get automatic cover over the phone.
Now theres a viable alternative & one where you get automatic cover
I do believe this might just get the BMFA sorting out a better solution for us.
I remember when you had to go to a post office to get fishing licences,
we dont do that anymore we buy them on line. I guess it just takes time
for them to realise it's what we need.

Cheque sent 14/12 as soon as the renewal arrived. Not cashed yet.

                  Can I fly tomorrow?

I second the over the phone method as it is how I organised my cover for the Soton meets. Payment was taken immediately on the 31st Nov and once processed you phone up and they'll give you your membership details over the phone. When I did mine they said they had a bit of an issue waiting on membership cards (iirc). Mine didn't end up arriving about a week before Christmas.

So if I took out RCHA insurance, are you saying that it will NOT cover me to fly at my club Stuart? Thus implying that BMFA affiliated Clubs require one to have BMFA insurance. Confused??
Where will the RCHA insurance cover me to fly?

The catch with BMFA affiliation is that all members require the BMFA insurance to fly, so if your club is affiliated and you got insurance from RCHA you would still not be able to fly at your club until you had BMFA Insurance... The problem is that as there was no alternative to the BMFA historically all clubs ended up affiliated, hence were stuffed if we want to change now the RCHA is available as an option.

......and so that will not change until heli Clubs switch allegiance, or other clubs recognise the policy coverage of our RCHA.

As long as the BMFA have received your cheque/payment you are covered. Give them a ring first thing Monday to confirm they have it.

Your club might allow RCHA insurance,i know DMHC although an affiliated club absolutely 100% will allow RCHA insured fliers to fly there.
