I am really impressed with the scale models you see around. Guys put a huge amount of time and effort in to the minute detail. Their models are fantastic.
I would love for one of my helis to be scale, as I know that Bert Kammerer and Alan Szabo need not worry with my [lack of] 3D skills.
However, I also do not have the modelling skills to do this type of work, so i wondr what I could do with, say, my 450??

Hehe! I think A lot of us more "mature" fliers want to do that very thing!!! I have been obssesed with Airwolf(obvious, no?!) from the day I learnt they used Rc versions in the tv series. An Icon of badd@ss heli's I think! That is THE ONLY reason why I am learning to fly heli's!!Originally posted by spunkmyer View PostGo with what motivates you. In this hobby my whole reason for learning to fly is so I can scale up my raptor to an Airwolf. Ok I know im not the first but thats what I want to do and it will be shop brought fuse. My second raptor will be an army heli that i will be build myself no plans yet. Me go with the huey a must
At the end of the day, you have to be happy what you choose. If the jet ranger is to your liking, even if it's a bit dull, then get one. Personally I would also go with the huey and do something like in Platoon, with pilot and crew hanging out the sides!Originally posted by ian6pot View PostI think you can have a top quality scale Heli thats correct in every detail when its sat on a shelf but i think it will always loose somthing when it flys as its one thing doing the slow realistic moves but i cant see how you would get over the massively out of proportion headspeed and the insane electric buzz?
Any how i think it will be the Huey,i will get the base to start then go from there as to which variant.
Thanks for the input it has helped alot, even if it was to make me think for my self
You will find flying slow(especially smaller heli's) is a new level of flying, a lot harder than just stick banging. And there is nothing wrong with the whining of the leccie heli's, I think it sounds much closer to the real thing than a nitro screaming in your ear with smoke billowing out the bottom! The headspeed you will just have to live with, I can't see any scale heli flying with a headspeed of 300rpm!!
Good luck on the choice and do start a build thread!!

Thats how I will start. buy a fuse then mod it to add scale.Originally posted by coptermanic View Post..so due to lack of modelling skills, I will start with one of these on my 450:

I know the HeliArtist shells are semi scale and give a good base to start from
But one question that bothers me is the Hueys i have seen while researching have the rota going anticlockwise and the tail rota on the left.
Is there any reason i cant do this on the 450 and what about the brushless motor and ESC?Can i reverse the motor as its got three wires?
Sorry to seem dumb but brushless is pretty new to me. Also would there be any issues with the Giro?
Another thought, what about the one way bearing?Last edited by ian6pot; 04-01-2010, 04:12 PM.HeliFlight TopGun VortexVastly UnderRated
HK450 Scaled into a HeliArtist Huey
And a Jack Russel(but that wont Fly)and what bussiness is it of the RSPCA to tell me to stop trying?
