  • Scale,but which?

Hi guys, having got to grips with the contra over the last seven months and then moving up to a Raptor 50 Titan, which i only crashed once and have since sold as i really did not get on with the nitro side of it i now have a 450(clone but thats ok).
My real calling is models so i will put a scale body on this 450 but here lies the problem. In my eyes there are two iconic Heli's.The Huey and the Bell Jet Ranger.
If you think military, people of a certain age, in there minds eye will see Huey without a doubt. But if you think civie, the first vision in most peoples head would be the Jet Ranger.

What are the thoughts of the crowd, what do people like to see.
    WHAT SHOULD I BUY?

And a Jack Russel(but that wont Fly)and what bussiness is it of the RSPCA to tell me to stop trying?

Go with what motivates you. In this hobby my whole reason for learning to fly is so I can scale up my raptor to an Airwolf. Ok I know im not the first but thats what I want to do and it will be shop brought fuse. My second raptor will be an army heli that i will be build myself no plans yet. Me go with the huey a must

Dont get me wrong.I will be buying a pre-made semi scale shell to fit which should give me a good base to add detail.
On that note, there would perhaps be more detail to be had on the Huey as the Civie Jet Ranger i suppose could be a bit of a plain Jane.

      Ummmm decisions decisions

Depends on which UH-1A Huey you go with. Helivac (dust offs) or evac if evac will it have mounted M60 (slicks) or m61 vulcans in the doors. You could also add M158 rockets in pods on the outside wings for extra scale detail

Good point, this is what i mean, when the time comes to go a pick up the shell i will have first studied various photos of the Huey veriants.
If you studie various Jet Ranger pics, apart from colour they all seem the same so perhaps i have the reason now to choose the Huey.

Yes rangers to do seem the same but what about a kiwi warrior:

Scaled up this would look fantastic with all that detail

Just proved it to myself. After a very quick google search the Huey veriants seem endless, from the classic doors open with mounted guns as flying over vietnam to medical versions and costguard, rescue types with winch and what seem to be transport versions that are just full of seats.
Do the same very quick search for a Jet Ranger and if your colour blind these only one.
One point,i know they are from the same company but the Huey and the Jet Ranger do look related.

Lol they may well have. To be honest either machine scaled up would look great. The warrior may just have the edge for detail as it is not as common at the field as the hueys even though I have seen a few.

The next thing is flying style. Hueys as we know tend to fly slower than rangers so it is now down to how you fly. Just like pilots who do 3d us scale pilots also need to learn each helis flying style. Civi rangers take off fly headings normal along rivers then land to collect passengers and then on to the next drop/pick. Army hueys or warriors would fly nap (nap of the earth) to avoid radar (more warriors than hueys) and with that radar on top it would be used to pin point tanks etc from behind hills or trees with a wing apaches ready to attach using the laser from the warrors radar FLIR.

Of course army helis are the better heli to go with and a good scale pilot will fly that model so it looks and flys like the real thing.

I think you can have a top quality scale Heli thats correct in every detail when its sat on a shelf but i think it will always loose somthing when it flys as its one thing doing the slow realistic moves but i cant see how you would get over the massively out of proportion headspeed and the insane electric buzz?
Any how i think it will be the Huey,i will get the base to start then go from there as to which variant.
Thanks for the input it has helped alot, even if it was to make me think for my self
