Well, as it's almost the end of xmas day I feel entitled to a wee moan...

I've just settled down to do a few running repairs to my Logo 400 following a tip-over on landing a while back. Thinking, as you do, that it was just a new main gear and flybar (already checked the shafts) so an hour at most and then I'd be ready to go flying tomorrow.

    No such luck...

For some reason I couldn't get the main gear off, so I thought I'll just give it a gentle tap to get it over a spot.

    No such luck...

So, I've now stripped it right down, the bearing is stuck fast on the mainshaft so I thought I'd show it to the kitchen blow-torch to get it off.

    No such luck...

Still stuck and with a blistered thumb (metal is a great conductor of heat) the mainshaft is now in the freezer and my heli that I thought I was going to be flying in the morning is now in as many bits as it was when it arrived on the living room floor...

So, now I'm browsing fast-lads looking at what I need / want and thinking that rc cars were such little trouble in comparison.

I need whisky, Logo 400 parts and a working helicopter for tomorrow.

Well, I drove up to the field earlier (thank god for the 4x4 as it was bad on Eaglesham Moor) and we had a proper whiteout with fog and snow on the floor meaning there was no discernable horizon and viz of just 30 / 40 Meters max - not ideal flying weather...

But on the plus-side the Logo 500 is re-built with the bits needed added... Gonna do the v-bar setup in the morning...

I have crashed my Logo 400 twice now both times really bending the main shaft and both times its been a complete bugger to get the bearings off.

Is it me or are Logos,a low parts count model a complete sod to work on

And those damn springy clips on the bottom of the main shafts,God knows how many of them i have fired off into oblivion even with a proper tool to remove them.

Chris, you're not wrong - they're a treat to build and run but working on them once they're built is an utter pain in the arse...

I've decided to keep the 400 in bits for now and come the new year I'll order the correct sideframes and a hardened mainshaft. Once I'd cleaned it all up I found that the one-way bearing bites into the shaft leaving a series of 'bite marks' that the bearing needs to be carefully eased over... Freezer / blotorch...

Sadly it's the tolerances being so close on the Mikado stuff means that any deformation makes it difficult to move stuff around...

My 500 is low parts count but when it crashes it needs so many parts and they're bloody expensive! How they can charge £18 for a hardened mainshaft which still bends when you crash I can't figure and the joke of a plastic canopy that is made of plastic that would disgrace a Walkera is £50 with the stickers. If parts prices were comparable with Align then it would be a cheap heli to crash - real shame as mine is now a shelf queen that may be repaired one day, although it's been on the shelf for over a year now

If you buy a proper set of circlip pliers it makes taking the circlip off the shaft a breeze - don't all Logo owners carry a set in their flight box

I do... Must admit, they work a treat too and they're great for holding onto the clip whilst working on the rest of the heli.

You must have seriously hit the deck hard to do so much damage, I use nylon bolts for the undercarriage to protect the mainframes.

You're right, the canopies are VERY thin, but I've always believed it's due to Mikado's almost fanatical approach to reducing the weight of their helis.

                        Andy

you are totally correct about the non hardened main shaft getting marked by the bearings,no idea why they didnt use a sleeve.I never went for the hardened shaft because its not only more expensive but i hear it can also cause the frames to break in a bad one and as Steve says it still seems to get bent anyway

Its true they are damned expensive to buy and fix but i really rate them as an electric model as i like the layout. Not so sure when fbl they are any better to fly than any other v bar`d airframe as my 600N now flies very Mikado like which is nice.

The plastic canopies are functional but not great,i like the newer glass painted ones,my 400 has one and they are nice.

As Steve said as a dedicated Mikado flier i maybe should invest in some decent clip removers,my ones are meant for the job but they were the cheaper end of the scale and i am sure there are better ones.
