  • Cant all be *******??

Got a trex 600 esp that i have been having a tail wag, with that wag is a small jolt in power,i got 4 turnigy 6cell 5000mah 25c lipo's and an outrage one, same spec.I got 2 6cell tuppence hapenny lipos checker that have been reading ie 4.20 4.19 4.19 4.21 4.21 3.95 but on the chargers all cells look all ok and reading the same.

So,i go out in the hanger with the heli and spool up at low rpm to discahrge the battery, done this for six minutes or so,put the lipo checker on and they are all reading 4.13-4.14 all looks normal

This happens on all 5 lipos, same jolts....do you think the esc is shot??,its a newish one, only done 5 flights and countless hovering sessions to check to see if all the tweeks ive made ie,strapping wires down, differnet gyro etc etc...

How i see it is,those lipo checkers are crap, faulty even

    Im at my witts end....HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How cold are the packs before you use them?

i'd guess the lipo checkers are fauly, if the cells are showing up as balanced on the charger i'd go with that, as for the heli wagging, is it more of a kick witha pulsing headspeed if so its the low voltage protection on the esc and could be either a faulty esc or cold/fault lipos, has this problem only started recently in the cold weather? and are the lipos kept warm prior to flying? if not try keeping them warm in the car or something, might also be worth going through the programming on the esc and either disable the low voltage protection or set it to it's lowest value and have a quick test flight and see if it is still there.

Never used them cold Paul, when the temps dropped i kept them in the cab of my van in a TX box then in my pockets for 10 mins, first 10 to 60 seconds fine, but glen is perhaps right,i also think the large electrics dont like these harsh conditions, ive programmed the ESC twice for medium cut off ala finless vid to still get the wag,i had a go with my 450 at work this AM and even tho the lipo was in a warm cab and got warm as i flew it it didnt have its usual poke

Just wish i had a big warm indoor area i could hover it

Hope to catch my m8 with his 600e up the field so i can put these cheap chinese checkers on his 6s.

I want to sell the heli but i dont want to sell a duff heli to someone

Cant fault my nitro's,they are proper hardcore in comparison

I have a got one of those lipe checkers that does almost the same thing and to be honest I think its the programming or lack thereof...

It will never show more than 25.2V for a 6S

For example if mine shows 4.21, 4.22, 4.22, 4.20, 4.19 it will always compensate and reduce the last cell to make the magic figure of 25.2V in the above case 4.16.

Does exactly the same with 5S packs.

Go with what your charger is telling you and if there is any doubt regarding it's calibration, see if you can get hold of a quality multimeter.

I'm left wondering if the spike in power and associated wag might be a static discharge somewhere?

Which ESC are you using, and are you using governor mode on it?
                Cheers,

Thats what i thought nips...hence why it works when ok when slightly discharged

Hi Rob,its the stock 100amp,im not using gov mode, but will reprogramme infront of the lappy tonight with bobs vid playing at the same time, theres a small chance i could of cocked it up up but im 99% sure i didnt

i'd put my money on it being the lipo's and cold i saw it last year and again this year, seems they can't put out the current in cold weather and the voltage drops setting off the low voltage protection, some brands seem to cope with it better than others and the lipos are fine in warm weather

I would just say this, 9 out of 10 times, tails either not holding or wagging is down to a mech issue, strip your tail hubs and check they are not got thread lock in the thrust bearings and they are the same way round.
Also, not being stupid here but thought i would check, doesn't the 600 elecs run the elecs off a bec and seperate lipo?

Just a real long long shot in the dark here but you have the 600 esp with a torque tube. Is the bearing set 5-7cm off centre in the boom? Like a said just a long shot just heard if its not it can cause problems with the tail rotor speed etc.
