  • Onwards and upwards then...

OK chaps, I'm thinking of moving onwards and upwards in my reincarnated heli flying career...as much as I love my Chinook, I think I need to move on. I'll be keeping it as an indoor only flier(outdoors on flat calm days)but I feel the need to get outside more and enjoy the big wide world.

So, I need your help in selecting the next step...the basic criteria is as follows:
A heli about the same size as my old Hirobo Shuttle...
Electric power only, none of that nasty smelly nitro stuff...
    As RTF as is possible...
Pod and boom to start with, with the option of adding a scale fuselage later on...
I'm not into 3D flying at all, just nice and steady flight, nothing too drastic...
Must be easily repairable, now I live alone in a small flat with no workshop facilities I only have basic tools and very limited room for repair work...
Cost...a month's worth of overtime. Around £200 ish...

Over to you, guys...help me out there.

Oh, and it really needs to be part of a package c/w radio...

Hi, Rich. TBH, the best deal at that sort of money is a Blade 400 RTF, about £280 new, but you could probably get one second hand for less. You get a decent Tx, the Spektrum DX6i, and the Blade is a decent enough heli.

Of course, if you could afford more, you should think about a Trex 450, or really pushing the boat out, a 500. That's serious money, though.

      Hello Brian,

Oh sh...ame, does this mean I have to part with my beloved Chinook? Maybe I should hang for another month's worth of overtime and go for a T-Rex, I was looking at them earlier, funnily enough.
The boat will stay firmly moored up, pushing it out much further isn't an option I'm afraid...g/friend coming home soon, car service looming, Xmas presents to buy, etc.

Maybe I'll have to sell my new sub kit to finance a T-Rex...

      Thanks Brian,

      Rich

        How about a 450 clone?
I left the hobby 3 years ago and discovered Women.

        I wish I never left.

Stretch them ££££££ as far as you can and get the 450 T Rex, you know you will regret it otherwise, think long term.

                I'm expert at pound stretching(ask the g/f...)

The T-Rex keeps popping up, it does seem to tick an awful lot of boxes...I can feel more defrauding...sorry, working overtime coming on.

Is the T-Rex easy to get set up and flying?

Well I know this is outside of your budget but I cant help feeling it fits your other requirements pretty well and IMO is well worth spending that bit more on.
Its the Thunder Tiger Innovator MD530 (As per my avatar) It really is a fabulous and extremely stable cp heli that comes with a great looking scale body 2.4ghz radio and ready to fly straight out of the box. If you need further convincing, then speak to Edmund (Ethe Av8r) Or take a look at this thread >>> http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/beginn...me-heli-2.html
As a total novice myself having only flown coaxial helis previously, Oh and one disastrous fixed pitch heli, I found the Innovator was perfect for me and got me in the air and flying circuits with what I considered to be a fair degree of success and very quickly and painlessly.
Here's a thread with a vid of my 3rd outing with this heli. I am convinced I would never had been anything like as successful if it hadn't been for the Innovators superb stability and handling.

The cheapest you can get a 450 sports combo and I say this because it'll be complete RTF is Fastlads (even without the extras they do cheaper than AVA). Fastlads are currently doing a Trex450 Super Sports Combo with DX6i + AR6200 + Battery for £459.99. I've spoken to another store and they'll match it but said Fastlads must be hardly making anything on it.

Tiddler...nice flying man, very neat and tidy. When I get that good, I'll come fly with you!

Darryl...thanks for the info, I'm thinking I'll have to delay my planned upgrade for another month, another couple of hundred quid seems to be needed.

Thanks Rich. But as I said, I put a great deal of it down to the Innovators superb handling.

And yes, I would be very happy to have you join me for a flying session
