Radyo warm user here. Don't worry about the screen clouding up as I don't look at it when I'm flying.
I keep 3 charcoal hand warmers on the go at the field - one in each coat pocket, and the 3rd in the back of the radyowarm. Battery heated socks are a God-send as well!
Well its first field test was today, and i'm pleased to report that its proper great!
Stuck a few gell handwarmers in the internal pouches, was out in a fair strong wind on a cold day, and the hands were nice and warm and windless, and with the neckstrap on theres loads of room internally for my large hands (using the thumbs method).
Bit of faffing about at starting time with the trims and stuff but not so much you need to worry about it. The hole i cut in the rigid 'wall' at the top of the warmer (for the antenna) is just the right size to sit on the shoulder of the DX7's antenna, so even if i try purposely and push the transmitter towards the top wall to foul the switches, the wall hits the shoulder and stops, giving a fair few inches of room. In actual use the risk of accidently flicking a switch is actually very low.
use gel hand warmers and charcoal handwarmers so far..
The best way imo is just to get a decent set of gloves and wear them inbetween flights.
Aye different strokes for different folks i guess, i tried that method and just couldn't get on with it, towards the end of my flight (just hovering ATM so 10-12mins at a time) my fingers were 'seizing' up and effecting my flights. The transmitter mitt has stopped that happening, so for me at least, its a worthy investment.
Next step for me is some charcoal warmers, they seem to have more heat output for longer (only 30mins with the gell packs) that the gell packs.
I am using a pair of gell packs though on the heli, to warm the lipo on cold days whilst flying, thats working pretty well too. Can't remember were i read it, but it suggested that flight performance drops when lipos get cold, so the mild heat form the gell packs is ideal for the reciever battery on my nitro, and doesn't upset CofG
