  • Still got tail trouble on my Logo

I flew briefly today because the tail has gone nuts again. As some already know it's on a Logo 500 & it's a 8900G/CSM SL720. Basicly i was flying & suddenly it started doing doing it's fast rudder pumping thing followed by all lose of control as it yawed nose left to nose in. I just hit thro hold & auto'd down from around 20ft. The light was not flashing so it's not static, the gyro has been mounted as per Ash & Matt's advice but the problem has come back. Both Gyro & servo have been tested & given a fresh bill of health by CSM, the tail is smooth when moving by hand via the push rod when not on the servo so now i'm almost about to give up & try a new gyro & servo. This whole thing is becoming a joke that's really frustrating me.

Just a suggestion but have you tried a support between the tail boom support arms. I have heard of these flexing and causing an issue.

Interesting you saying that Mike, cos I recently bought a brace to clamp onto the boom support rods on my 600. I had noticed quite a vibration/resonance in curiously only one of them. This has cured the vibes.

Hmmm??? My gyro is not touching any parts of the frame & is as far as i'm aware isolated from vibration. How can i tell if the supports are vibrating in flight??

Paddy fly real high pull the nose up pitch to zero then let the speed of the model increase. The tail should hold. Might get a small shake from tail when near the ground. If the tail let's go it's not in heading hold or a problem. If it shakes straight away it's to much gain. Let us know what it is when you have found it. Don't give up it's a nice model. Cheers Paul

The tail does hold perfect although i'm not confident that it wont go nuts on a tail slide as that would deffo make me crash. I was thinking maybe it could be a RX issue on the rudd connection?????

Again mate? Argh, going to have to get this sorted. I'll take a look over it again next time we meet. It seemed to be flying perfect, other than the bounce last time I flew it! Glad it didn't happen while it was on it's side!!

It almost was as i was about to do aileron tic tocs. The gyro does need it's stops tweeked with the interface but other than that it was solid.

                    It's back!!!!!

Today i was flying & the tail started to give it's warning sign of small twitches in the tail like a fine intermitant wag. A few moments later & the tail swung out quite fast (left yaw) then it flew back to it's original heading. I carried on hovering & the little twitches remained then BAMM it swung out again then went quick back to it's original position again. It only went about 45 deg before it came back each time. I'm at a complete loss over this now??? I've had the 8900G & SL720 serviced by CSM, i've had Ash kindly take a look & give it the all clear. Anti static tail mod, Graphit 33, earthing mod but it still persists???. The gyro didn't flash which it's supposed to if it's hit with static. It holds perfect in rate without any need for quick trim (although i do it anyway) If youtube would recognise the phones MP4 format i'd upload a vid (i uploaded all the others with the same phone but now it says unrecognised???)

                    HELP!!!

                      only joking

vibration or loose tail blade grip

                      good luck

Only wants to do it at full 100% flat in idle 2 with HH. The tail is all new, the thrust bearings are new. Ash took the tail apart aswell & found no fault. Just as i
had all confidence in my heli this happens.

Geek, what did i do last time???? i don't know??? Yea joke i know but that's gone 'wooooooosh' over my head lol

Hey mate email me the file and I'll convert it. Pop down sometime for a fly and I'll take a look at the same time again. Will be much easier as I also have the Logo now.

                              Hi Paddy,

Dose sound a lot like static hits, might be worth grounding everything before splashing out on new kit

I normally just ground the boom both ends at build up and thats it but one of my 400s was a absolute pig for some reason. Needed a load more, boom- both ends if using the carbon tail, front of boom to motor plate to neg bat' wire and Rx using spare channel.

If thats all been done then might be worth a double check on the connections.

Conditions today would suited static hits as well, High pressure-strong winds and low humidity (40%) and the results are pretty much spot on what you describe.

Hope you get it sorted whatever it turns out to be
                              Mark.
