Flying F3C

I don't know if there is much interest with people here for flying F3C, but I for one am trying to get into it. I have had a session with Dave Fisher and went through setting up my heli, but my problem now is what will improve things and how. Would there be enough interest here to start a seperate F3C/competition section? Thus keeping discussions on setup and tweak ideas in one place.

My biggest problem, aside from getting out and practising, is knowing what I have done wrong and how to improve. I can't seem to find any collation of info on settings or how changing things affect the characteristics of a heli. If someone knows of such please point me in the right direction. And if not why don't we start trying to get something together here?

sounds good idea F3C's not for me but i do respect the pilots skill, also do enjoy the more technical side of setting up/mods and tweeks

FAI comptetion flying, different to 3D competiton flying in that it requires larger smoother and more precise manouvers. 3D is all about power to weight ratio and fast manic manouvers by comparison. F3C has accurate hovering manouvers performed over flags in the ground, and a requirement for loops and rolls to be in specific places and heights.

I think with F3C you have to go to the events/competitions and learn from the pros.

Ask lots of questions and soak it all up. And it also requires alot of experimentation to find the sweet spot, that works for you.

Compared to the normal flyins the AHA F3C events don't get much coverage, but they do have a fair few events each year. Checkout there website if you haven't already done so. The 2007 events have been posted.

Far to much emphasis is put on 3D flying in this sport. F3c is where I won't to go once I get out of the rut i am in (thats the I can't fly for s**t rut) The accuracy and timing and fluid flying style is so much more pleasing to watch than the thrashing of most 3d. Not that I have anything against 3d flying it's just not my thing (before anybody starts!!). So yes there is another interested party. (but i can't realy fly well enough to even think about it yet)

even though i'm a 3D flyer myself I feel your correct there is too much hype about it.. people seem to think if you can't/don't fly 3d then your opinion doesn't matter.... which i feel is incorrect and unfair... although, the way i see it i the more you push your model and flying the more you learn.. so its horse's for courses
also there's different sytles of 3d and some of the smooth flowing stuff is very pleasing to the eye, and some absolutley mental stick bashing stuff... I used to be smooth but over last couple of years its gone a bit crackers.. now i'm trying to find the middle ground it shows more control

ahh this old chesnut.

its true that a lot of 3d is stick bashing, im guilty of it myself occasionally, depending on my mood.

however the set moves of 3dx require fine control and accurate flying just like f3c. The problem is that most never really refine it to the same level of control as the F3C boys have to.
