After the screw came out from the tail servo horn last week, and I lost tail control, other than damaging the main blades when putting it down (see my other thread), I noticed the tail servo does not centre correctly coming back from one direction only. The opposite rudder movement centres back fine when the stick is relased. I've tried this with the tail disconnected at the servo and it's still the same, so it's either the servo itself or the gyro, any idea on how I can test further, I suspect it must be the gyro?

I find with both my GP750/DS620 and GY401/S9254 combinations, the servo never centres properly in heading hold mode.
However, if you waggle the rudder stick left to right three times within a second or two, it should recentre. You can also flick the switch that controls the gyro between HH and rate mode on the Tx.
Other than that, put the heli on the ground, stand above it and swing the tail towards you whilst watching the pitch slider. It should move away from you. Similarly, if you swing the tail away from you, the slider should move towards you.Last edited by Mart61; 29-11-2009, 11:40 AM.

How hard was the landing? Are you sure the servo gears havn't strip some teeth which could lead to the servo not being able to centre.Worth opening it just to check as it's only four screws.See the other thread on here about how it is possible to strip servo gears in the 9254 servo.See here;

Good point Grant, the landing was not that bad, but it was enough to damage the main blades, but that could have happened just by coming down at an angle. I will check the servo tomorrow. Could I not just plug another standard servo in too on the bench, to see if that works or not?L̶y̶n̶x̶ ̶3̶8̶0̶X̶L̶ -

Check the step down aswell that the tail servo plugs into to reduce the voltage.I had one that had a little nick in the wireYou could try another servo plugged into the gyro to see if that centres.But only if it is compatible with the Gy401 gyro.
Cheers Grant.

I'm not using a step down, (I think), I'll strip the servo down tomorrow as I guess standard fubbie, 148's or 3001 will not be compatible with the 401. Thanks.L̶y̶n̶x̶ ̶3̶8̶0̶X̶L̶ -
