  • Time waits for no one!

    Hi Folks

Well, I have been kidding myself for a long time now that I would have the money and more importantly time for this fantastic hobby.

Over the last few months, for one reason or another, I'm afraid I have had neither

As a result I simply cannot justify allowing my Nitro's to simply rot on a shelf in my bedroom (the wife will be pleased for some shelf space) so have decided to move them on.

I will put a proper for sale section up for each with pictures when I get home but for now, if anyone is after a Raptor 50 V2**PROVISIONALLY SOLD**, JR Airskipper 50 or Trex 600 Sport then PM me for details of whats included and price.

I will remain a member of my club for now and the new year and will concentrate on the 450 to keep my hand in.

    Cheers guys

    Mark

sorry to hear this mark but fully understand.
Been there myself a few times now and it will get better.
Try to keep what you can as it's expensive to buy back.

Sorry to hear this. I'm not sure if it's at the kind of price you are looking to get for your raptor but, if so, might be worth contacting this guy:

        Noo, Mark!

Sorry to hear about your situation.

You will come back to nitro though and buying again will cost you a few quid more.

Just tuck the 600 under the bed if possible

Yes sorry to hear Mark, but can fully understand it, this hobby does take up alot of resources.

stick with what you can though, maybe in the future you'll feel different.
          All the best

As others have said. I would avoid selling because you know you'll want to have them again, you will miss them and then it will be more expensive to get back, which will make a difficult situation even more difficult.

I know there's the attraction about having the money. I have given thought to selling all kinds of stuff from time to time but I am usually glad I hung onto them. And then when I know I will just never use something again then I'll sell.

I look at it this way; if I sell something I might want again I will most likely lose money in the process and I hate losing money. But if I know for sure I'll never use something again then I might as well sell it, even at a loss, but only when I'm really sure.

(Just to add; I went for about 6 months from Autumn of last year until about April of this year when I didn't get to fly. Between work, the weather and then travelling, I hardly had time to even think about it. I had been so out of the loop about any heli news I didn't even know the Align servos had come out. All this time my helis sat here, waiting. But then I got back into it and have had such fun this year and now want to keep up the momentum through the winter as much as possible).

Sorry to hear that Mark. Just think carefully what you maybe doing, and trust that whatever you do, will still keep your foot in the hobby one way or the other.

Several years ago, like yourself I thought I would have no time in this hobby, and having a daughter, decided to sell off most my helis..which included a really nicely set up raptor. I only recently got back into the hobby about a year ago, and have really gone the all electric route which started off with a 450. Looking back on it now, I really do regret getting rid of the Raptor. My feeling is the Raptor was literally a heli you could just use week after week with little maintenance...basically a real workhorse of a heli...Can't justify myself with costs getting back to owning a nitro, and a Raptor would still have suited me fine now.

Anyway, good luck whatever your choice.

The technology in the hobby is accelerating. If you can get a reasonable price now then in the future you will get the latest available. If you hang on to old stuff it will sell in the future for even less.

                        Keep the 600.

I know you don't get up the field very often, but when you do get a chance, you'll still enjoy flying it.

BTW - the JR Airskipper used to be mine and I built it new. I sold it to Mark when he got gestational about owning a JR heli . It's a lovely heli to fly that will never bite you or catch you out. It's certainly no 3Der and is more akin to FAI, and will hover about whisper quiet all day long and do some pretty damn fast forwards flight with all the usual F3C type manoeuvrability. I originally had a YS50ST in it was by far the best engine that heli has ever had. It later had an Align 50 and more recently a TT53 Redline since Mark has had it.

Here is a photo of it back when it was almost new:

This is true of most things really in that most things depreciate over time. Obviously some things appreciate as a rule like real property, art, antiques etc. (but not always )

But the point is really a matter of how long are we talking and how big a hit would he take. Plus you never know what changes in global economies could do to future prices of new helis.

IMHO I'd say a safer gamble is keeping helis that are perfectly good, that are all setup and ready to fly and might be used again.

Everyone is urging Mark to keep stuff. I am just having a different point of view. There was a rumour across Europe that 2.4G may not be allowed for use by RCers. What if for example Mark has 35MHz gear and all clubs in the next couple of years ban its use? It would make sense now to off load it while there is still a market.

What you are saying is very valid. But I think it gets increasing more vaild the longer he may end up waiting.

However, if we're talking just a few months then it may not be as economically sound. With anything that depreciates over time it is best to sell sooner rather than later once you're sure you won't use it for a long time.

I think my main point, and others as well, is that when a situation looks depressing one can get to thinking it is worse than it might really be, and there is also the imediate attraction to the idea of cashing out, so it's just about not making a rash decision is all.
