The 450 Align ESC is 35amp but you can use anything between 35amp and up to 55amp or more. If it's programmable it means you can change settings like startup power, lipo cut off, etc. so if you can afford it then yes, get a programmable one. I now use Scorpion 55amp and it seems amazing but it sells at £55. It's also future proof if I want to move up to more power.
I've got castle creations 35amp on my beam. I do use switching bec which takes load off ESC. Load meaning heat most use cheap linaer bec which get hot. If you get a bec will leave power to servos even if esc goes pop
I've watched 3D pilot using aligns 35 amp esc with no problems using rockamps lipos, if thats anything to go by.

I have a CC Phoenix 35 on my GL450 and with the stock motor it has lots of power.
The 3DX 450 has a sonix ESC, I think it's 25 or 30 amp.
I keep seeing some really inexpensive ones out now but not sure which ones are good and if there are any to avoid.
Right now the Sonix is driving me mad because it refuses to go out of programming mode and every time it starts it goes through the whole series of beeps for each option

Not sure if this solution will work but check the throttle trim as if it's above the halfway mark, when the lipo is connected, it thinks it's in programming mode !!

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it is set at the neutral point but I'll check it and maybe see what happens if it's all the way down or something.

Yes, that one will do just fine. It's actually a pretty good ESC. BEC (battery elimination circuit) means that you don't have to run a seperate rx battery pack, it will power your rx from the main battery.
